The Three Hostages by John Buchan (1875 - 1940).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalogue page: https://librivox.org/the-three-hostages-by-john-buchan/

The Three Hostages is the fourth of five Richard Hannay novels. The Richard Hannay novels are action/mystery/spy novels with a James bond feel. This book starts out with Richard Hannay married to Mary Lamington living in Fosse Manor. He is asked to work undercover and figure out who kidnapped three children of prominent people, while Scotland Yard investigate the abductions officially. Different friends help him solve the mystery. It's suspenseful and a fun action packed mystery!

    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks03/0301231h.html
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Chapter 1!!! 25:15

So, I actually recorded the complete chapter 1-2, and then audacity crashed on me, so I have 30 minutes of a very long chapter 2 done... LOL So I'll be finishing that tomorrow. :P

Also, Anne, do I need to put word count and are my "titles" in the section correctly formatted?

Oh no, that would have been annoying! Chapter 1 is PL OK!
Chapter 2 just has a stumble over the word Malefactors at 30:00

You do not have to put the section numbers in the title anymore, I would assume you can leave them there though since you filled it out... Of course Anne will know.
Word counts are mostly for group projects, they are not necessary to solos, but if you want them there for yourself you can put them there. Personally I like having them so I know roughly how long the next chapter will take, not that I have done many solos!

So, this is pretty hard to read and the chapter are a little too long for my comfort. I really like the story and it is an engaging mystery. I am thinking about making this into a group project instead and me acting as BC. Tiff, would you still want to DPL if we make this a group? I feel bad for wimping out, but I don't want to read the whole book pushing myself, when I'm not enjoying it. I would claim 1-4, and take more depending on what isn't claimed, is what I am thinking.

Of course I am still happy to pl :)
It is best to know your limits! I am sure no one here wants you to feel pressured into doing a project that is overwhelming for you, best to back off a step and enjoy the project while still being very much involved! :D
