Hello! I'm brand new, so I hope I'm doing this right, but I'd enjoy reading 33 (Chapter X. Hungary and the Slavonic Kingdoms by Emil Reich) and 34 (Chapter X. Hungary and the Slavonic Kingdoms by Emil Reich). Have a great day!

Hello, and welcome to LibriVox! :)

Since this looks like the first time you'll be assigned a section, let me know under what name (real or nickname) you would like to be credited in the catalog. We can also include a link to your personal website or blog, if you have one.

Also, please complete a 1-Minute Test before you record your first contribution. Its purpose is to ensure that your recording software is configured in accordance with LibriVox technical standards, so that you get a chance to adjust its configuration without having to redo a longer recording. The instructions can be found on this wiki page:

https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test

If you post your upload link in this thread, I can check it for you.

In the meantime, I'll pencil in your claims in the Notes column.

Thanks, Nate, and welcome to LibriVox! Section 8 PL notes...
06:44 Repeat ("How can . . . how then can")
06:55 Repeat ("one so chosen . . . so chosen")
06:59 Stumble ("pertaining to the priestly office")
07:39 Repeat ("of a state of soc . . . society")
07:53 Repeat ("fundamental prin . . . principles")
08:53 Repeat ("and country gent . . . gentleman")
12:33 Repeat ("is . . . it is not worse")
17:06 Stumble ("chiefly limited")
18:49 Stumble ("and no appeal to . . . in ecclesiastical") - "to" should not be in the sentence
19:07-19:10 Long silence, and immediately following the silence a sentence from somewhere else in the chapter (not sure where, but it needs to be edited out)
19:22 Repeat ("Holy See . . . See")
19:44 Repeat ("among the exi . . . exigencies")
21:00 Repeat ("pale of settled li . . . life")
23:15-23:17 Long silence and missing word ("and the New World")
24:05 Repeat ("conflicting or . . . or according")
29:25 Repeat ("adding . . . adding anything")

I listed the basic repeats and stumbles I heard within the recording; however, there are a number of hesitations that need to be edited out, as well. You're off to a great start, but please realize that most readers will have only a handful of repeats and stumbles in a recording of this length (once the editing process is complete and the recording is submitted for the initial PL). I suggest that you edit the file again and re-upload it. If you need any tips or guidance on editing, feel free to let me know.

One more thing: The volume of the file is too quiet at 81.0 dB (87-91 dB is acceptable, and we aim for 89 dB). To adjust the volume in Audacity, select the whole recording. Click Effect > Amplify. In the Amplification box, enter the number +8 dB. Verify that the file is around 89 dB using Checker.

You are a wonderful reader, and it is only a matter of time before editing becomes a breeze, so keep at it, Nate! Thanks!

Hi Ruth,

For a moment, I thought you recorded section 46 a second time, but then I took a closer look at the file name! This is "the other" Cambridge history project. ;)
