A Dream within a Dream
by Edgar Allan Poe

Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many Librivox volunteers as possible!

This week's poem can be found at: http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/10031

Begin by reading the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
A Dream within a Dream by Edgar Allan Poe, read for LibriVox.org by [your name]
Adding, if you wish, date, location, or your personal url.

Then the poem:

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow—
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream:
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand—
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep
While I weep—while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?
At the End say:

End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.
Please leave a few seconds of silence at the end of your recording.

Whereas story is processed in the mind in a straightforward manner, poetry bypasses rational thought and goes straight to the limbic system and lights it up like a brushfire. It's the crack cocaine of the literary world. - Jasper Fforde

I've made another version, should I pick one or is there a naming convention for a second submission. (I got a little silly on it.)

It's not unheard of to have more than one version by a reader. I think we had a few for Jabberwocky. You can choose one if you'd like or put them both in. Just add a 2 to the file name.

Joe_Brenneman is ok, I guess - but I've no homepage to link to.
