The Einstein Theory of Relativity by Hendrik A. Lorentz (1853 - 1928).

This project is now complete! All recordings can be found on the catalog page:
https://librivox.org/the-einstein-theory-of-relativity-by-hendrik-a-lorentz/

Whether it is true or not that not more than 12 persons in all the world are able to understand Einstein's Theory, it is nevertheless a fact that there is a constant demand for information about this much-debated topic of relativity. The books published on the subject are so technical that only a person trained in pure physics and higher mathematics is able to fully understand them. In order to make a popular explanation of this far-reaching theory available, the present book is published. <br>Professor Lorentz is credited by Einstein with sharing the development of his theory. He is doubtless better able than any other man -- except the author himself -- to explain this scientific discovery. (summary from the book) ( )
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/einsteintheoryof00loreuoft/
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

"The Einstein Theory of Relativity, by Hendrik A. Lorentz. Section [number]"
[/size]

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
  • "Section [number] of The Einstein Theory of Relativity by Hendrik A. Lorentz. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."

A very short one, barely 70 pages. Claims to be easy. Well, it doesn't have any math, at least. :D
DPL wanted.
Cheers,
Ava.

Well, since there's now a reader already waiting (thank you!) let's start us off with the "Note & Introduction". The others should be shorter, although not necessarily easier. :D

Leni, I am slightly worried that I might be reading too fast here - what do you think?
Cheers,
Ava.

Hi, Ava

I think the pace is quite comfortable. Considering I am a Latin teacher and the last time I had a Physics class was over 25 years ago, the fact I could follow the explanations with no difficulty is a confirmation of that. PL OK!

Thank you Leni!

I just uploaded the rest of the book.
It's maybe twice as long as the introduction...

No rush. I have to think of a good cover anyway. I found photos from the eclipse he mentions, but I'm not sure if this black and white image is a good idea... Need to mull it over a little.
Cheers,
Ava.

Well, that was fast!

Sections 1-6 are PL OK.

Section 7, PL notes:
at 01:48 - repetition "without which one cannot imagine the development of astronomy"
at 4:33 - repetition "Einstein's work, we may now positively expect"

Quite clear (even though I admit I had to listen twice to the second half of chapter 5) :hmm:

Thanks Leni - corrections made and file reupped.

Interestingly, I found the chapter on the coordinates most confusing - what do you need an ether for, just put the coordinates in already. Imaginary numbers, anyone?

Ava.

Haha... and at the end I felt the author still didn't want to let go of ether altogether.

It is PL OK! :)

Thank you so much Leni for helping me getting more science into the catalog!
I hope other people find it as interesting and easy to understand as we did!
