Something Childish and Other Stories by Katherine Mansfield (1888 - 1923).

This project is now complete! Please download and listen from the catalog: https://librivox.org/something-childish-and-other-stories-by-katherine-mansfield/
This collection of stories and sketches by Katherine Mansfield was published the year after her death. It appeared in the US under the title The Little Girl. Most of the stories were written between the publication of the New Zealand modernist author's first and second collections, Bliss and Other Stories (1920) and The Garden Party and Other Stories (1922). (Rob Marland)

The project's DP is bluechien

    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=uc1.$b242632&view=1up&seq=9
If you can’t access Hathitrust, please read from this NZETC text and tell me you have done so. I believe the texts are identical, but I will PL from Hathitrust to be sure. http://nzetc.victoria.ac.nz/tm/scholarly/tei-ManSome.html
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Happy new year, all!

This collection entered the public domain in the US today.

I have already recorded the Introduction, Ole Underwood, and A Suburban Fairy Tale. Feel free to claim any other story, with the exception of Late at Night, Two Tuppenny Ones Please, and The Black Cap: these stories are written as scripts and I would like to record them as mini-plays.

The roles in Late at Night are:
Narrator: I will read this.
Virginia

The roles in Two Tuppenny Ones, Please are:
Narrator and friend: I will read these.
Lady
Conductor (male reader, please)

The roles in The Black Cap are:
Narrator, servant, hotel manager: I will read these.

Hello Rob,

if it's okay, I did a drop-in PL on your pieces, because this collection is so wonderful and I knew these would be a pleasure to hear. :9:

Introductory Note: PL OK
Section 7, Ole Underwood: PL OK (shudder)
Section 19, A Suburban Fairy Tale: one repeat ("All this talk about famine!") at about 7:51

Thank you,
Eva
