44-46 PL OK.

For some reason, I noticed more in these sections than in many others the gender terms like "newsmen" and "policemen". Funny how it used to be ubiquitous, but now sounds strange and outdated. :)

Thanks, Tricia! One more section coming up either later tonight or tomorrow!

I know! I particularly noticed it when they were talking about reporters being able to safely cross police lines, and it was phrased as "moving men and camera equipment across the lines". The assumption that of course they were men went unexamined. Of course, they probably were mostly men. A woman reporter had a hard time breaking out of features into hard news at that time, so women would have been few and far between in these situations. Still, there must have been a few, and I wonder how they reacted to the use of "men" in these discussions.

Here's Section 47 - (Ch 15 The News Media and The Disorders, part 4) - (length 22:27)

May I please claim Sections 52-58 - (Ch 17 Recommendations for National Action, parts 3 to 9)? I know it's a lot of sections, but I have a lot of time at home these days!

(I just noticed, there is no part 8, it goes from part 7 to part 9, and what I thought was part 9 is actually part 10. But those are the sections I'd like, whatever their numbers may be!)

You're in for 52-58. Thanks for noting that "part" error. It looks like I misnumbered. :) I've fixed it so it now runs consecutively.

Hi, TriciaG. I'm starting work on Section 30 and am curious whether to include the note marked with an asterisk at the very end of the text (the last page of the section is only a full page photo). The part in question starts as:
"*The number of nonwhite unemployed ..." and ends as "(62 percent times 1.26)." It's not really a footnote, but we might treat it as such and exclude it without losing the gist of the section.

If included, that text with the asterisk might best be placed in the audio either immediately before or immediately after the table it is associated with, to retain its context for people listening without the text in front of them.

What would be your recommendation?

Thanks,
Mark

Hmm. I could go either way with it. I suppose that footnote is telling how they came up with the base numbers for the table, but it's not really critical.

I'm going to leave it up to you. If you read it, I'd read it before the table, with a "Footnote" "End footnote" vocal tag.

Hi, TriciaG, Section 30 (15:52) is uploaded at:
https://librivox.org/uploads/triciag/kernerreport_30_commission_128kb.mp3

I did include the footnote before the relevant table toward the end of the section.

Thanks,
Mark
