The Black Cat Vol. 01 No. 01 October 1895 by Various

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/black-cat-01-01-oct1895-by-various/
The Black Cat (1895-1922) was a monthly literary magazine, publishing original short stories, often about uncanny or fantastical topics. This is the very first issue, offering 7 stories. ( Sonia)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.

Claiming is restricted to one section per reader, to have the maximum of different voices in this project.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/stream/TheBlackCatV01no12189609/The Black Cat v01no01 (1895-10)
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

      Need noise-cleaning?

      • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader
        Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
      • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: Kitty
      • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
      • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

This is the start of a new monthly magazine series. The stories all sound very promising, of an uncanny or at least adventurous nature. The authors are often not very famous, but apparently some really famous ones had their debut in this magazine, like for example Jack London.

As there are only a handful of stories in each magazine, I will keep claims restricted to one section per reader, so that every story will be narrated by another voice.
Don't worry, there are a lot more issues to come. There will be plenty of stories to record.

I hope you will all have fun. I am surely looking forward to hearing all those stories. :9:

I'd like to claim Section 5, please! This will be my first time reading - my preferred catalogue name is Hulda Heath. Any CC beyond standard that you're inclined to offer is more than welcome, Sonia.

Thank you,

hello Hulda, and welcome to the project. So cool that you chose this one as your LV debut :D

I see you already passed your one-minute-test, so there is nothing holding you back from starting out here. I'll create your personal reader page in a minute and post back the link. Section 5 is assigned to you. Please read the first post carefully, you'll find all the necessary details for correct intro/outro and filenaming there.

If there are any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. Looking forward to your first recording :) Have fun

ok here is the link to your reader page: https://librivox.org/reader/13782

here all your projects will get listed, and if you click on "reader section details" you can see which sections are assigned to you, or have PL notes or are PL ok. It's quite handy to keep track of all your assignements.

Enjoy your first recording.

8-) wooow, this is the very first story I hear from this magazine and already I am thrilled :9: what a cool and creepy story. The description of the picture and key already gave me the shivers, it was very Poe-esque in style, which is wonderful. My hunch was that the wife didn't die but was buried alive but it turns out the author was not as gruesome as me.

A wonderful narration, Nemo, thank you so much. This chapter is PL ok. A promising start. Hopefully I'll hear you in some of the next issues as well. 8-)

Thanks Sonia! .... yes, I thought the same about it being in the Poe style. I look forward to what might be in store in the next issues!
