Mildred and Elsie by Martha Finley (1828 - 1909).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/mildred-and-elsie-by-martha-finley/

Mildred returns home from visiting her mother's relatives. She continues to grow in wisdom and beauty and receives many proposals of marriage. She is an ever-increasing blessing to her family and community. In-laws are added to the family, and they enjoy a visit from Horace Dinsmore and his daughter Elsie. Note: The chapters were labeled incorrectly on Project Gutenberg, but it is still complete. (Amy)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/45651
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hello and welcome to LibriVox!

Are you volunteering to be the dedicated proof listener (DPL)? If so, or if you are wanting to do some hit-and-run PL'ing to see if it is right for you, check out this link to see what we require for proof listening. This project just needs a Standard level of listening, and that is all explained in that link. Please let us know what you would like to do, and there is no rush because we don't have any sections in yet!

Moving us over to Readers Wanted!

Thank you, Amy.
Here's section 1: https://librivox.org/uploads/icequeen/mildredandelsie_01_finley_128kb.mp3 @ 13:15.
I'd value criticism from you and the PL as to whether my characterisation goes over the top.
I've just been doing some dramatic readings, and can't quite shake off its influence :?

Thank you!

I don't think your characterization is over the top. I like to add a bit myself. :D

OK, there are two sections in the Magic Window. Give those a listen, and see how it goes for you. If you would like to take on the job of DPL, let us know after that.

Oh goodness, I didn't see this. I was ~ hunting and stopped in to help out. I listened to chapter 1. I won't listen to chapter 7 so Stella can. I'm sorry I got in the way.

Chapter 1 is PL OK. I enjoyed the characterization.
