Fascinating what you can see when you are convinced that something must be there...
PL OK - thank you, Ava.

Hi Todd,
My new microphone is 2 weeks late as of today and it will probably take at least another week to get here. I apologize for this causing a delay in my recording, but I will record/edit chapter 18 as soon as it arrives.
Thanks,
Michael Knowles
Thank you.

Hi
Here's section 13. Just mentioning, in the paragraph beginning "Mesozoic time was the period..." at 9:48:0, oddly a sentence is repeated twice in the text - in the middle and at the end, so I didn't record the one at the end. Hope that's ok.

Hello,
I would like to claim Section 15 (Summary) of this project. I am a new reader. I will submit my 1-minute shortly. I would like to use EdwardMontes as my designator. I'm very much looking forward to participating in Librivox as a reader.
thanks...

Fancy meeting you here.... Did you get the "powerfully addictive" warning?
I will hold the section while you get the "test" done. Remember it is not an audition, but a check of your equipment and setup before you do something long and complicated.
Thanks, Todd

Wow, that whole paragraph is messed up. The following portion is repeated at the end:gondola wrote: ↑May 13th, 2020, 12:51 pm Hi

of the Rockies at its close overdid the necessities of the case and caused subsidence elsewhere. The southeastern portion of the continent suffered most, the West on the whole materially gaining. In the Triassic and Jurassic eras the gain was pronounced; it occurred in the Cretaceous also, but with much alternation of loss. Finally, at the close of the Cretaceous, the continent, except for a prolonged Gulf of Mexico and vast internal lakes, was substantially complete.
Actually, the phrase, “Mountains at the beginning of the period and that”
Should be inserted after “The contraction which raised the Appalachian” to complete the sentence and then the remaining duplication deleted. Or so it seems to m.
I’ll punt this over to Todd, as MC and BC, to decide how to handle this.
Oh, one reading note: Several times in this paragraph the word "subsidence" occurs, but each time I hear, "substance" which is an entirely different word with a different meaning, so that will need to be corrected.
Excellent reading of this long section! My only PL Note is that the background hum is quite noticeable, louder at the beginning of the recording, but sill there throughout. I would strongly suggest using the Noise Reduction feature to minimize this. I’d take a sample, say, between seconds 4 and 5. If you need help with this, let us know.
But, stand by until we sort out the text . . . .

I found a scan of the book - the section you are talking about is
https://archive.org/details/marsanditscanals00loweiala/page/136/mode/2up/search/of+the+Rockies
I prefer the Gutenberg text usually because it is clearer text to read from, but here I guess it has some transcription errors compared with the scan. We don't have to be word perfect, but here where there is confusion, we should fix what we do so it makes sense.
I will let Gutenberg know about the problem so they can fix their file too.
Thanks, Todd

Great, Todd!
I've also sent the reader a PM so we should get this straightened out.

Hi Larry
I think this version should hit all the points you raised.
Glad we got to the bottom of the peculiar paragraph!

Hi Todd,
So glad to be on this project with you. I've submitted my one minute test. Eager to get started with Percival Lowell. I visited the Lowell observatory a few years ago and I live in Las Cruces, the town where Clyde Tombaugh spent most of his life, so I feel a connection.
thanks,
