Hi there! I'm a new reader and would like to contribute works in Spanish. Can we record translations of works originally published in other languages? I'm thinking about Anton Chekhov's short stories. I would also like to know where the recordings will be available for public users. Thanks. - Alexia
Yes, it's still open! Thank you for your interest. Though, have you done your One Minute Test yet? You need to do that first, just to make sure your settings are all correct. You can read all about it here: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_TestFernandaRuiz wrote: ↑March 24th, 2020, 4:54 pm Hello! Is this still open? I want to do a recording in spanish if that is alright!
Ask me any questions if you have them!
Hi! I happen to also contribute works in Spanish (in this very post in fact).halexraynal wrote: ↑March 24th, 2020, 5:35 pm Hi there! I'm a new reader and would like to contribute works in Spanish.
Yes, we record translations, as long as they are in the public domain (it's not enough that the original work is in the public domain). You can read all about public domain here: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Copyright_and_Public_Domainhalexraynal wrote: ↑March 24th, 2020, 5:35 pm Can we record translations of works originally published in other languages? Or you can just ask if in doubt! (Hint: https://www.gutenberg.org/ is where we get most of our public domain material, even translations).
As for Chekhov, I read a lot of him myself! I'd love to help you with this idea of yours, but we need source material in Spanish, that we can verify that it is in the public domain (see above). If you have any, great! If not, we need to either search for it or give up and record something else. It's tough, I know; sometimes we don't get to record the things we want to, but there are many other works in Spanish waiting for you and your mic! We Spanish-speakers normally share ideas and questions here: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=16995&start=195
Feel free to private message me if you want to ask questions or want help with the Chekhov project
All finished projects end up somewhere in our main page if that's what you mean: https://librivox.org/searchhalexraynal wrote: ↑March 24th, 2020, 5:35 pm I would also like to know where the recordings will be available for public users.
hello Fernanda and Alexia, welcome to the forum and I am looking forward to your Spanish contributions
I can only agree with everything hayduo already replied to you (thanks for that ! ). One minute test would be the first thing to do, then to make sure your text is in the public domain, please post your online source here in this thread, so I can have a look, before you record a longer section. It would be a pity if all the work was for nothing because the source would not be public domain
gutenberg.org and archive.org are good sources where you can clearly see the copyright date. It has to be published before 1924 to be useable. For many countries the author also needs to be dead for 70 years at least to be in the public domain. Careful there too. That counts for the author and for the translator.
Any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Good look with the test And let us know as soon as you get the ok.

Thank you for the useful information, hayduo and Kitty/Sonia. Finding Spanish translations in the public domain for Anton Chekhov does seem like a challenge, but one I'll continue revisiting through sporadic online searches. If I find find something, hayduo, I will let you know. I would love to collaborate on a project like that.
To simplify things for now, however, I'm thinking about doing the following: (1) doing the one minute test, (2) assessing if I must order a mic or if the built-in mic will do, (3) signing up for a section reading in the existing thread of Dante's Infierno: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=76744. I welcome any advice you might have.
From there, I'll determine if I am able to take on different projects. For example, folk tales available in the public domain, such as Arabian Nights (in Spanish), would be right up my alley — as well a lifetime's worth of work!

Same here. I submitted my 1 minute audio test, available here: https://librivox.org/uploads/tests/test_halexraynal.mp3.
I see you did! Make the corrections and you are ready to rumble! Let us know what text would you like to record for this post. (Remember: public domain).
Nice! But you have to post it here: viewforum.php?f=21halexraynal wrote: ↑March 25th, 2020, 7:31 pm Same here. I submitted my 1 minute audio test, available here: https://librivox.org/uploads/tests/test_halexraynal.mp3.

Hello everyone,
I'm pretty new but I'd like to try and record one of Guy de Maupassant short stories, Sur L'Eau. It will be read in french.
This is the source I'll be using: https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k113355s/f73.item so it will be from the public domain.
Please let me know if there is something particular that I need to do, except from having read the newbie guide and setting my recording stuff as required.
If some of you have other short stories or poems you'd like to listen in french, please feel free to make suggestions.
Take care everyone!

Hello everyone,
Here's my recording of Sur l'Eau by Guy de Maupassant (1850-1893), read entirely in french.
Here's the link for the recording: https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/msw023_surleau_maupassant_nad_128kb.mp3
Take care everyone !

A bientôt

Nadie wrote: ↑April 7th, 2020, 6:48 amHere's the link for the recording: https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/msw023_surleau_maupassant_nad_128kb.mp3

https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/msw023_surleau_maupassant_nad_128kb.mp3
Key words: river, boater, sublime, suspense, death.
Work in progress

Since no other Spanish works were submitted to this collection I figured I'd record a quick one.
Title: Poema II Trilce
Author: César Vallejo
Text: https://fundacionbbva.pe/biblioteca-virtual/trilce-2/ (Click Descargar and jump to II)
Recording: https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/msw023_segundotrilce_vallejo_hi_128kb.mp3
Length: 01:23
Keywords: trilce, poesía peruana, vanguardismo
I'm actually considering recording this whole book, so tell me what you think! Also, I had to amplify quite a bit but I think the background noise is still acceptable (?)
Ready for PL . Thanks!
Hernan
