commonsparrow3 wrote: December 17th, 2019, 4:03 pm Okay, since I neglected to mention it, I guess we have two versions of the same carol this year! (I make myself a mental note to include something about this in next year's instructions!)

As to your recording -- it's completely lovely, and I'd hate to do without it! That's reason enough to include it! It is PL OK! Thank you, Adrian!

Tricia, just for information -- the file name for the first version was ccc19_bleakmidwinter_rl and the file name for the second version was ccc19_inthebleakmidwinter_aps So there's no chance of the files overwriting each other by accident. Sorting the files in the MW alphabetically means one will end up in the b's and the other in the i's, so they won't be immediately one after the other. So listeners won't hear the same carol immediately repeated, but only after other carols in between. (Again, I make that mental note for next year!)
Hello Commonsparrow3,

I did wonder about the duplicate, I found this in the instructions "But remember, it doesn't matter if the carol has been recorded before." and took this to mean it was OK. I see now that this statement related to "before in librivox" rather than "before in this collection". So, I think I made a mistake here. I'm happy for my recording not to be included if it creates any kind of issue.

Best Regards and Merry Christmas,
Adrian

Here is an Italian one

Gesu Bambino (1917) words and music by Pietro Yon (1886-1943)

(Did the accompaniment, arrangement and harmonies - sounds like I'm singing with a bunch of drunk shepherds  Well, it is Christmas after all)

Your carol is very definitely included in the collection, Adrian! And the confusion was entirely due to my own confusing way of phrasing the instructions, not in any way your mistake.. Your rendition is so lovely that I do really want it in the collection. And as the file names are quite different, it won't pose any cataloging problem. So don't give it another thought!

Well, if this is how shepherds sing when they are drunk, then every choir needs to follow their lead! This is wonderful, Romano! PL OK!

I love this carol, even though I don't know a word of Italian, because it reminds me of an Italian-American family I knew, dear friends of my youth, who used to sing this.

Oh, and I just realized -- our "Multilingual" Carol Collection is now, at last, actually multilingual!

Thank you, Tomas Peter! Both of these are PL OK! And highly enjoyable, too! The little "Santa Claus" song was entirely new to be, and very cute!

Tricia, neither of these two authors were in the drop down menu in the MW data. Might thery be added?

Nunn is added. Dole is already in the catalog: https://librivox.org/author/3315

EDIT: Uh oh - Nunn was already in the catalog as well! https://librivox.org/author/9095

Are you searching by last name (Nunn and Dole)?
School fiction: David Blaize
America Exploration: The First Four Voyages of Amerigo Vespucci
Serial novel: The Wandering Jew
Medieval England meets Civil War Americans: Centuries Apart

 I've always had a hard time getting the name of the author to work. I can't type fast enough, so a whole long list of names comes up after I type in the first letter, and then when I try to add other letters, one at a time, I get no dropdown list at all. So I erase it all and begin again, trying to see if I can quickly squeeze in at least two letters before the list appears. Anyway, last night I must have been tired, and couldn't get either name to appear, so I assumed they weren't there. This morning, I got Nunn on only the second try, and Dole on the fourth try -- record-fast! But your assurance that they were in there did help! Sorry for putting you to the trouble.

No worries!

You could try copy/pasting the name into the search box. Just don't accidentally include any spaces. :)

I never even thought of using copy/paste! I guess that would make it simpler!

There has been the same carol twice many times before, take 2011 for example.

I'm getting a bit closer to completing "O Come O Come Emmanuel", doing the arrangement has been a real nightmare due to my lack of skill in doing arrangements and my poor musical theory. I have only read treble clef, and one musical line all my life, so bass clef really does my head in something terrible. So confusing! Surely doing arrangements should be relaxing, but I was ending up in a terrible rage! I've pretty much finished the arrangement now, so I will just have to feed it into the recording/sequencing programme, set it all up and record it, then I can do the vocals and the mixing/mastering.

Cheers,

Sam

Thanks for the update, Sam! I still have a spot saved in the MW for your recording.

Link to your recording, as shown on the Uploader: https://librivox.org/uploads/triciag/ccc19_ocomeocome_ss_128kb.mp3.mp3
* Link to the text (and music) source: http://www.hymnsandcarolsofchristmas.com/Hymns_and_Carols/o_come_o_come_emmanuel-1.htm
* Language in which the carol is written: English
* Author's/translator's (and composer's) name, birth and death dates: Born: 24 January 1818, London, United Kingdom
Died: 6 August 1866, East Grinstead, United Kingdom
* Title of the carol: O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
* Duration (runtime) of the file in 03:50

OK, I've finished it. What an ordeal. I was actually up all night; I have not been to bed! The mix isn't the best, I have been using a different scheme to record all the music. I have learned a massive amount though.

Hope it's OK, there is no time to change anything.

Cheers,

Sam

It is absolutely OK, Sam! In fact, it's wonderful! Thanks for both this and your earlier contribution. I hope to hear from you again for next year's carol collection!

The collection is now closed to further contributions. We are just waiting for the "First Nowell" chorus from Twinkle88, and then we are heading to the catalog. Thank you, everyone, for your contributions!
