Journeys to Bagdad by Charles S. Brooks (1878 - 1934).

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/journeys-to-bagdad-by-charles-s-brooks/
In these 10 short and witty essays, author Charles S. Brooks (1878-1934) muses on various topics, as wide-ranging as Shakespeare, travelling to foreign countries, or even fashion (night-caps and hoopskirts), to name only a few. ( Sonia)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/20095
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hello Raina :) and welcome to our forum, and especially in this project. I can reserve you Section 7 for the moment, but before you start into any lengthy recording, it's highly recommendable to do a one-minute-test first. This is to make sure that the technical settings are all correct.

You can read more about it here: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test
Please post the test in the Listeners Wanted forum: viewforum.php?f=21 and someone will come along and check it and give you feedback or advice if needed.

As soon as the test is ok'ed, please post the results back here, and then I can assign you the sections officially. For that I would need to open a personal reader page for you, so please also tell me which reader name you want to go by. Can be the same as the forum name or your real name, or whatever.

For the time being, I will reserve the sections for you for one month, to give you time to sort out the test. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. :)

Good luck with the test ! :) And if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

hi Denise ! I remember our discussion about volume in the one-minute-test :D cool that you want to start out in this project. It's a nice short section you chose as your first venture.

Here is your brandnew reader page: https://librivox.org/reader/13698
all your future projects will be listed here, for the moment you only see this one.

For all the details regarding intro disclaimer, filenaming, etc, please read the first post carefully.

And now have fun with you first section. This author is very funny, so maybe you have a hard time keeping from laughing from time to time  Luckily these episodes can get cut out in post-processing ;)

hey Rachel, welcome to this project :) I see you just passed your test  so now I only need to know the reader name you want to go by, then I can open your personal reader page for you and assign you the section officially. This can be your forum name or your real name, or a pseudonym, whichever you prefer.

All the important details about intro/outro and filenaming can be found in the first post. If there are any questions still, don't hesitate to ask. And have fun with your first official recording. 8-)
