Anne, would you have time to PL this for me?
Happy to do this, but will need advice on how to....is there a link to process or can you give me quick walkthrough? Cheers, Anne
Sure. It's not hard. There is a link in the First Post of every project on how to proof listen and the various standards. I generally ask for "Special", which means you follow along with the text and make a time notation of any "significant" discrepancy -- slurs, repeats, missing words, wrong words. Doesn't have to be Word Perfect so long as it means the same thing. People's names should be pronounced the same throughout, and I don't mind if you point out something I've missed due to poor enunciation, speaking in the wrong voice, etc. Some PL'ers leave this to the reader.anneflebari wrote: ↑November 4th, 2019, 8:35 pmHi Michele

Download the file to your computer. Open in Audacity if you have that. Check the INTRO and OUTRO against that asked for by the BC. Open the link to the text. Listen through earphones.
I make my notes in Notepad as I listen, then copy it to the forum post and spiff it up a bit with bolds, underlines, smiles, etc.
No rush on this. Take your time. I think you'll like the writer and the story. It's unique.

No. As DPL on this project, I just need another volunteer to PL my sections. I usually ask someone who has contributed to the same project. All you do is say Yea or Nay. And if I make multiple contributions to the project, you can offer to do those as well. This happens frequently when the BC does a group project and is the DPL, but needs someone to PL their sections. Occasionally I've had a post pop up that says "I've PL'd your section and it's PL OK.", but that is rare and kind of sticky, because I may have already asked someone else to do it. It's always best to offer first and wait til offer is accepted, then I put a Note in the MW to let everybody know.anneflebari wrote: ↑November 5th, 2019, 12:31 am Thank you Michele:) Do I have to "claim" this for PL and if so, how??

PL Notes The Extravagance of Love
Thanks, Chad. Nice treatise on beauty, and on mankind's love of decoration. Wildflowers, yes!
Overall volume at 86.8 is very low, and lower at the front end. Could easily enhance 0:00 - 5:04 by +3, and 5:17 to end by +2 for an average of 89.
4:13 "......why Jesus defended it. He allows the Beautiful. He would have the Beautiful honoured......" , in both cases of He, you say It.

Another love story by O. Henry
https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/lovestories2_when_one_loves_henry_wj_128kb.mp3 16:16
I hadn't read this O. Henry story before coming across it today.
In the middle of this story, there's a word which incites either joy or fear and loathing in most politically sensitive people nowadays.

One source for this story had this for the title "When one loves one's Art no service seems too hard". But the Guttenberg has this shorter title "A Service of Love".
When I recorded the piece I inadvertently used the long title.
Only during my final edit pass did I notice this problem.
Fixed the intro and outro and file name and uploaded as https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/lovestories2_service_of_love_henry_wj_128kb.mp3 16:17
I don't know how to handle that first, incorrectly identified, file.

Hi Michele, loved your reading of this spooky story, and it reminded me of a visit to a "doll's hospital" many years ago_ very eerie with all those limbs and glass eyes on display!
here is my first attempt at PL...You asked for "special" PL, is there anything here that could be overlooked in a standard PL?
File name: Author’s name in filename includes “fm” as well as surname
filenamed as “A” Doll's Ghost, actual title is “The” Doll's Ghost(don’t think this matters for filename?)
Intro : Publish date included in intro
9.28 start of sentence spoken as “Although” instead of “Altogether” - corrected phrase was repeated at end of sentence, probably intended as cut and paste:)
13.36 spoken : “her” hair, text : “yellow” hair
16.05 spoken “:wood- Fillings” text “wood-Filings”
20.15 missed word: “much” overcome’
Outro
Title should be “The” Doll's Ghost not “A”
Author's name spoken as Francis M Crawford, in intro as Francis Marion Crawford
Hope I haven't been too pernickity, cheers, Anne :

The Dolls Ghost reloaded with corrections, and a new file name (next email will discuss your questions).

File name: Author’s name in filename includes “fm” as well as surname - I put the initials only because there are so many Crawford's in the LV catalog. It is acceptable either way.
filenamed as “A” Doll's Ghost, actual title is “The” Doll's Ghost(don’t think this matters for filename?) - It doesn't really, but as we usually leave out "a" and "the", in the new upload I just say "dollsghost"
Intro : Publish date included in intro - The Intro is "approximately" what is called for, the reader can add the publication date if they want, also "translated from the Russian by xx" if that is appropriate. It varies by story in a Collection, unlike in a chapter book where everything should be the same.
9.28 start of sentence spoken as “Although” instead of “Altogether” - corrected phrase was repeated at end of sentence, probably intended as cut and paste:) - Yes, thanks for catching that.
13.36 spoken : “her” hair, text : “yellow” hair - I would not include this comment in standard or special PL'ing as it makes no appreciable difference to the story. We have to keep in mind that many readers are not adept at seamless editing, so it would sound worse to fix it. But I personally appreciate it. If you look in my signature line, you will notice the CC. That means Crits/Comments are welcome, and probably any errors you notice are ok to mention.
16.05 spoken “:wood- Fillings” text “wood-Filings” - Wood fillings makes no sense, so yes this is appropriate to mention. I would copy and paste in a few more words around the phrase ("and cement and wood filings as usual") to make it easier for the reader to find.
20.15 missed word: “much” overcome’ - Adjectives are not always essential to the meaning, and I would not mention this one in either Standard or Special PLing, unless of course you are doing it for me. I love vivid word pictures.
Outro
Title should be “The” Doll's Ghost not “A” - Good catch!
Author's name spoken as Francis M Crawford, in intro as Francis Marion Crawford - It's good to be consistent, I think.
Hope I haven't been too pernickity, cheers, Anne : - Nope, you learn by asking, and I like coaching new PL'ers. We need more PL'ers, and it's an important job for improving the quality of our product. It gets easier, I promise.
