I've been mostly in the wind for the last few weeks, so I wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten about this project! I have recorded 3 of the 4 sections I've signed up for, and will be editing and uploading within the next week or so
thank you for the update, Colleen, but no stress yet. There is still a whole month before your deadline even expires, so we're all good so far :)

Looking forward to your sections. :)

thank you, Alan, flawless as always. Wow, Wolsey was a glamorous character it seems. who would have thought.

Here is my edited file. I suppose that I must have been so pleased with my numbers that I thought adding an unnecessary one was the right thing to do.
 I can understand that. Well, quadraginta has nicely been cut now but I fear you cut a bit too much now.

> right after 4:48: now after "viginta" you cut out by mistake the word "carucis". It was there before, so I'm sure you still have it in your previous file. Can you paste it in again, please ? It must come right between "viginta" and "ibi ecclesia"

sorry for the trouble

Here is Section 18. I liked this one--obviously not a fan of the Danes though:
https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/worldstory_volume09_18_tappan_128kb.mp3 17.39 KB
:? quite gruesome and graphic at some points. But the little boy survived. So there is even mercy in the fierce Danes sometimes. Excellent section, thank you, Jim. PL ok of course :)

 I hadn't noticed the 'distinct beeping' - which was a bird calling in the background  So familiar to me, I probably didn't even think it was on the tape. Anyway, fixed both. 3.2m
did you maybe forget to re-upload ? I just checked the section and the beeping is still there and the end disclaimer missing :hmm:

Here is Section 42 for PL. 45m 52
https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/worldstory_volume09_44_tappan_128kb.mp3
it was actually section 44, but you uploaded with the correct filename :) thank you, and wow this was a lengthy section. What a feat ! And the battle scenes were action-packed and well narrated.

I only have a few spots where the pauses are a bit too long, could you cut them a little bit please, so they get under 1.5 seconds at least.

> at 1:09-1:11: (p. 309) between "his grasp forever" and "the country was": long pause
> at 3:59: (p. 310) repeat "who was close behind" – can be cut
> at 10:25-10:28: (p. 314) between "he had received" and "every post": long pause
> at 19:46-19:48: (p. 318) between "the battle had really begun" and "it was not long": long pause

the rest was perfect, thank you :)

indeed the story of the princes in the Tower is very tragic :( King Richard III is always depicted as a villain for this deed.

Both sections PL ok. (careful with the filenames though - no capital letters allowed ;) ) I liked the funny undertone for the Host  she seems highly amused by this performance.

Thank you, Monika !

Hello Sonia! I just finished section 15:
https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/worldstory_volume09_15_tappan_128kb.mp3
very well done, Marcela, and good job on all the foreign names  And the narration was fluent and flawless ! Unfortunately you missed some part of the text to complete the story :(

> at 12:44: (p. 95-96): you forgot to record the last two pages of the section. Sometimes the paintings are put inside one chapter, so I admit this is rather confusing. That is why I wrote "9 pages" in the Magic Window, to help the readers. So far you only recorded 7 pages. The story continues a little bit more. ;)

> the volume is below our accepted limits (only 84.7 dB) – could you please amplify with +5 to get close to the average of 89 dB ? Well actually, this may change again with the added 2 pages you will still record, so the best thing is to check yourself before you upload. For this I recommend the Checker: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Checker it checks the volume of your finished mp3 file. For example, if you see you only have 84 dB, then you simply have to amplify with +5 to get 89, and so on. Quite easy to handle.

Thank you

Sonia

Thanks again, Sonia. Yes, I shouldn't forget the one soldier who sheltered the boy. Oh, and Hamlet and Ophelia!

OMG! I will fix it, but it will not be until the weekend, as this week is packed from 9 to 9. I have to learn how to set the volume thing, I thought it was right this time.

That's the most likely cause, though I could have sworn I had uploaded it again. Apologies, and I definitely have now. It's 3. 2 m

My strong recommendation is to find and use the Checker utility as Sonia has suggested, because that enables you to check your own volume (and other settings) until you get it right. It's almost certain you'll need to use Amplify to increase your volume, as it's not just a matter of 'how to set the volume thing' but of just including the volume check, followed by Amplify as part of what you do. You'll probably also need to use Noise Cleaning after Amplify because (as you have already found) Amplify increases background noise as well.
If any of this sounds like double Dutch and you need help, let us know.
