Section 3, les goncourt, ready for PL. Since I read this myself, I can't PL, so a volunteer would be welcome. Thanks!

Here are my two section:
https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/dial1_06_shannon_128kb.mp3 (8:45)
https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/dial1_07_shannon_128kb.mp3 (22:03)
Unfortunately, they were recorded on a very windy evening, and Section 7 seems to have picked some of that up. I cleaned it up as much as I could though, so hopefully it isn't too disruptive.
Glad to be a part of this project,
Rachel

Section 6:
7:00, last paragraph of page 25 (https://archive.org/details/gri_33125014428284/page/n40), I hear "native" instead of "naive".
Section 7:
8:10, last para of p29 (https://archive.org/details/gri_33125014428284/page/n46), I hear "wavering" instead of "weaving" in "weaving circles of exquisite sound". I think there could also be a pause before this phrase, where the comma is, so that the meaning of the whole sentence is clearer (not that I expect the author's intention in writing this piece was to achieve perfect clarity!)
10:25, a para near the middle of p30 (https://archive.org/details/gri_33125014428284/page/n47), I hear "shaped like an amorphous mouth" instead of "amorous mouth".
15:40, top of p32 (https://archive.org/details/gri_33125014428284/page/n49), after "...dissolved topaz" the rest of the sentence is missing. You continue with "Ah! Sweet my love!"
I ran both files through a free program called MP3Gain. Some of us use its Track Analysis feature to check whether our files are in the target volume range, and if there is any clipping (also called peaking). Both your files came out as a little too quiet. If there were no other things for you to fix, I would use MP3Gain's Track Gain feature, with the Target "Normal" Volume set to 89.0, to correct the volume and then re-upload. But, since there are other things to fix, I will ask you to give that a try yourself. You should be able to find MP3Gain for download, maybe on Sourceforge.
The second thing MP3Gain noted was that both your files have clipping in them. I see you are a new volunteer here, but I can't judge your previous level of experience recording audio. So I hope you won't mind if I give you the basics on clipping. Your recording software is set to record at a certain volume. Some software allows you to adjust this setting; some does not. If it is set too low, the volume will have to be increased in editing (or with MP3Gain), but this will also increase the noise inherent in every recording. Therefore, it is better to set it high. However, if it is set too high, the loudest parts of the speech will be distorted. There is no way to fix this distortion in the edit. It is a balancing act to set the recording volume at the highest "safe" level.
MP3Gain tells me that there is clipping, but not how much or where. So I opened your recordings in my editing software, and it looks like the loudest moments are:
s6: 3.09, 6.32, 6.55 (this last one also has a bit of a plosive, which you can see in the waveform too: a pop filter or just avoiding speaking directly into the microphone will help you to avoid this).
s7: 2.05, 6.47, 9.57, 10.50, 14.55, 15.23, 15.40, 16.10, 16.17, 17.22, 18.29, 18.38, 21.14.
Ideally, there would be no clipping. However, although sometimes clipping can sound really bad, I think in your recordings it is not a huge problem. If you use MP3Gain to adjust the volume I think that will be enough. I mention all this mostly so you can have another look at your waveforms, notice the kind of things that are likely to result in clipping, and see if you can make adjustments to your recording setup.
I also don't want to discourage you, because I know for new volunteers there can be a lot of technical stuff to get familiar with. Your readings are excellent, you dealt with the French pronunciation better than I ever could, and I am very glad you are contributing to this project.

Hi Rob, I see there is only one section left, so I can take a simple story and make this project fully claimed

well, I had time, so here I give you a quick turn-around. I felt, the story is somehow lacking something, as if it was part of a bigger story and only an excerpt.

Thanks, Sonia. This is PL OK. Yes, a weird story - to be honest, they've all been a bit like that. I think they were going for style over substance: more about creating an artistic mood than telling a story. Thanks for bringing us closer to the finish line.Kitty wrote: ↑February 5th, 2020, 11:02 am well, I had time, so here I give you a quick turn-around.
