Yes. Section 15 was the most exciting chapter so far. I do wonder if there are still S.A. shelters and work places like that. It wasn't crystal clear to me from the text, but I hope my impression that they would give the people who came to the shelter a meal, a wash and a night's sleep before putting them to work is accurate; besides the unkindness of not doing so, a famished, exhausted person couldn't do much and certainly not very good work.

You're absolutely correct - - - and the General is very quick to point out exactly that fact. He makes a point of stressing a good meal, a good night's rest and a thorough wash ALL happen before any labor is expected. Section 16 adds to the excitement.

I've long considered the Salvation Army one of the best charities but became particularly interested in it after stumbling into a project here recording one of Samuel Logan Brengle's books on holiness. I've hung on as dpl for several more of his and then those by or about the General and Catherine Booth.

If this message system allowed attachments I'd attach a photo of the S.A. band that drove up in a flatbed truck, piled out and performed several worship songs in front of the Roman Catholic church directly across from the restaurant where I was having a mid-afternoon lunch in Alnmouth, on the coast of Northumberland in August 2018. They played beautifully and spiritedly, and I dashed out to sing along with them and give a contribution to a woman who was there to collect. When the waitress followed me out remonstrating that my lunch was getting cold, the S. A. lady agreed that I ought to go back inside and eat, but I kept singing at the table thinking the words to the modern song "Light of the World (you stepped down into darkness)" and the classic "Be Thou My Vision" would bless someone even though my singing might annoy some fellow diners. As she and her husband left before I finished my lunch, the woman I had thought most likely to be annoyed stopped to thank me; "I love that song ("Light of the World")," she said as they passed my table.
