Hi Anne and Erin,

I have just set this one up on the launchpad - viewtopic.php?f=28&t=77395. Files are ready to upload - it's only a couple of hours in total.

Cool! I'll go check in on that thread.

I can't for the life of me remember if I told you about this last year, but on Soundcloud there's a recording (about an hour and a half) of Neil Gaiman reading A Christmas Carol. If you're feeling festive!

Sections 12, 14, 19, 21, 22 are spot PL OK.

I'm beyond impressed that one week-long bender will see you through to the end of the novel. No wonder you can record so many books!

Read for PL OK. I used another effect in Chapter 24 which may sound a bit odd. It is supposed to sound like Mopo is speaking from behind a blanket to disguise his voice. It may sound odd because he doesn't mention that that is what he has been doing until after he has gone back to his normal voice again a bit later.

Mopo's voice has been the biggest challenge in this book. Its the first book I've read that uses another voice all the way through. I've made him into a perfect mimic of other characters' voices, including his own - and I've also tried to make his own voice (as character) get closer to his voice as narrator as he ages through the book. Just saying that, because I don't think anyone will notice!!! :hmm:

The effect doesn't sound odd! It's cool that you're playing around with these things. Or if it's your son's doing, I hope you got him a coffee as a thank you! Was this executed with fancy software, or is it an effect in Audacity?

I would like to think that people will notice the care you've taken with the voices, but I understand your assumption that they won't! If it's any consolation, I've noticed because I'm always trying to pay attention to how readers approach challenges that long-dead authors leave behind. I like how you've been tackling it so far!

Two notes for chapter 23:

5.33-5.36, bottom p. 187, repetition/alternate take
‘Nay! nay! ‘Nay! nay! Turn not back…

9.13-9.18, top third p. 189, effect not applied to Mopo’s speech

Chapter 23 is corrected and 25-29 uploaded for PL!

One of the things I am enjoying is how Mopo is telling the story as if he is the victim. You have to think twice to remember that most of this is actually his fault!

Yes, that was Kaz again. He just used the EQ to turn down all the treble. I'd have thought that would just make it sound very deep, but the effect was to make it more distant.

Ha, you noticed that about Mopo too! Yes, he's a devious so and so, isn't he?

Chapter 23 is spot PL OK. One non-mic note for chapter 25:

5.23-5.28, p. 207 mid-page, self-correction
…and after a while entered the hist- entered the territory of the Halakazi…

Your son is very clever. I can guarantee you I never would have thought of doing that to obtain that particular effect!

Some potential holiday listening - on radio 3 Neil Gaiman is reading extracts of his work, with musical accompaniment. I haven't listened, but it looks like it's a full-blown production.

I was hoping to listen to a little bit more today, but I'm going to have to take a brief hiatus for the holiday period. I'm looking forward to getting back to Nada's adventures after I've eaten all the panettone in the flat!

One note for chapter 26 (no recording required!):

11.33-11.37, p. 219 last line, repetition
You shall tell him that the Lily You shall tell him that the Lily…

Chapters 25 and 26 are spot PL OK!

I was going to say something about how things slow down over the holidays, but you're doing yourself proud with your editing! I'm looking forward to these. I think I know what will happen, but Mopo's way of relating it really makes the book. Merry (post) Christmas and Boxing Day to you, too!

Chapter 27 is PL OK.

The radio goodies keep coming. I've only just seen this, but there's a half-hour Neil Gaiman short story radio drama available. It has Glenda Jackson, so I think I'll have to listen!

Chapters 28 and 29 are PL OK. Mopo really can't help himself, can he? I bet he thinks up plots even in his sleep.
