Chapter 10, volume boosted by 5 -- MUCH better -- volume same as or somewhat louder than my other chapters.

Ch 10 PL OK.

Have you considered downloading Checker? https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker

It was developed by the husband of one of our admins, is safe and easy to use 8-)

Hi Lynnet,

Just ran all my chapters through Checker -- thanks for the idea -- and find Chapter 6 lies "outside volume level" suggested. Checked the file and see it's very spiky (I recorded both this chapter and chapter 10 -- which you flagged as being too soft -- under abnormal circumstances).

My idea is to fix the amplitude. What say you?

If you can’t do that because of the spikes, try running compression (under effects in Audacity). You can run it up to 3 times if need be, before it no longer has any effect.

Will do. In fact, I had to fix chapter 10 (increase volume) by reducing individual Spike amplitudes, then increasing "select all" volume. But I'll try compression first

Thanks for the reminder.

Lynnet,

Herre's Chapter six compressed, volume adjusted, the checker is happy and so am I.

I want to thank you for reminding me about the compressor effect -- I did a bunch of solos in the first few years of this decade and was up on all that stuff, but it's been a while and I plumb forgot. (Also thanks for the Checker info -- excellent tool!)

GREAT! Allen's humor runs throughout, but in a reserved, wry, British trickle. I would have liked a few more obvious humorous allusions -- look forward to hearing this!
