Middle Toe... PL Notes

Richard, nice clear reading.

There are a couple of technical issues to be addressed...
1) The file name needs to be all lower case (even your initials... yes, that takes some getting used to!)
2) There is a lot of background noise. This is very common and could be for all manner of reasons, some not in your control. Your file would definitely benefit from noise cleaning. If you are using Audacity, there is a remedy for this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFSg9o37HMw You can usually run this 2 or 3 times without affecting quality. I noise clean all my files.
3) The volume is outside the acceptable range. We allow 86-92 dB, with an optimum of 89dB. Your file is 95.1 dB
Again, if you are using Audacity, this is an easy fix. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_z607awyLw I would recommend amplifying by -6.

Since noise removal will probably reduce the overall volume, you may want to tweak the amplification. We have a handy tool for checking volume and other technical specs, which is free and safe. https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker It's a good idea to get in the habit of running files through Checker.

As an aside, recordings for the Coffee Break Collections should be under 15 minutes in duration. I would prefer this to be included in the Short Story Collection. viewtopic.php?f=19&t=75758&hilit=short+story+collection In order to include it there, I would need you to change the introduction to meet the requirements there. It is easy to cut out the wrong introduction and replace it with the right one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLdJsoGQc9c
Also, rather than "End of recording" please say "End of The Middle Toe of the Right Foot by Ambrose Bierce".
Just let me know when you have made the corrections and I will transfer it to that project.

Hi there - here's my piece for the collection:

"The Mysterious Origin of Fires", by James Scott. From "The Strand Magazine", Volume 35, published in 1908.

Madness
The volume is low. Please amplify by ~4dB.

Conscious PL OK

Both pieces sound a little over-processed. No need to fix anything, but bear it in mind for future recordings.
Here is madness amplified: https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/cb023_madness_cjph_128kb.mp3

Yeah, I've been having problems with the sound quality with the mic that I am currently using, I will see about getting a new one in the future.

Many thanks,
Chad

Lynett,
I do not have administrative rights to install the Checker on my work computer. The MP3 is too big to email to my personal computer. Also, I am blocked from uploading the file to Dropbox or similar. The best I can do is upload it to your site, go to my personal computer where I can install Checker and run it through Checker there, then re-upload it again.

I have rerecorded the intro and outro and run it through Audacity's noise reduction.

The file is at https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/cb023_themiddletoeoftherightfoot_rs_128kb.mp3

Next time I do a recording, I can do on my personal computer.

Please let me know how to proceed.
