Hi
Just checking that I’ve got the procedure right for claiming sections an submitting recordings.
As a newcomer to LC I submitted my 1 minute test on 7th October and it was OKd on the 10th.
I posted a claim for Aesop 183 & 184 in this forum on 16th October. However, I didn’t get an acknowledgement or confirmation but later saw that my name had been listed in the MW next to the above sections.
I took that to mean the sections were available for me and I could submit my recordings which I did on the 19th.
Apologies if I’ve got it wrong and have missed out a step. I appreciate also that with so many sections and readers for this project the admin volunteers have a lot to do so it may be that everything is in hand but am wondering if my recordings have been overlooked or that I need to fix some errors before they can be listed for the PL. Just asking...
Thanks :D

Oh, boy

Double fumble on my part.

I do remember when you requested these sections, and added you to the LibriVox catalog and assigned them to you, but neglected to post a note to that effect here, which I try to be very conscientious about.

Then I do remember your submission of the recordings, but didn't get them in the MW or posted here.

You did everything right; just i who dropped the ball.

Anyway, you are all set, so the proof listener will give you a report on them shortly and post a note here. She's not as absent minded as I am.

First, yes, by the way, seeing your name listed next to a section in the MW (Magic Window) means it's yours, even if the BC hasn't managed to acknowledge them in a post. There's a lot of very small sections on this, and occasionally something gets overlooked.
PL: very nice readings. You have a very pleasant clear voice, and I like the way you have read to draw out the meaning of the story and application (even if the editor does go overboard a bit sometimes in his 'application'!)
Just one comment: could you keep a close eye on the silence at the end of your recordings? These should be a full 5 secs, and preferably neither longer/shorter. On 183 it's around 6 and the other (184) is a not quite the full 5 secs. I've marked both as OK though, so no need to modify unless you want to or unless Larry requests it.
I'll look forward to hearing more read by you.

mungojerry311 wrote: October 24th, 2019, 5:24 pm At long last, here is my first section, The Viper And The File:
https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/fablesofaesop_123_aesop_128kb.mp3

Length is 2:43

The application part may be a little rough, I'm quite new to this sort of thing, but I'll let the PL be the judge of that. Also, must we read the disclaimer before every section? I imagine it would get annoying to hear that if you're listening to multiple consecutive sections.
Nice reading.
Thanks, I have marked this as PL OK, but as your initial silence pause is a shade over the maximum 1 sec, I would ask that you keep a close eye on that in future, and keep under the maximum please? 1/2 a sec is better than more.
I will observe there are quite a few longish pauses (2s or more) in your readings, and especially the nearly 3 secs at the end, before 'End of Section'. Better if the pauses were shorter. I regularly have to trim my own - I know we need them to breathe, think about what we're reading next, but they can make for a reading that sounds slow to readers, especially in short sections like this. Howev er, that's a subjective comment and you of course can ignore it. :)

It the claimants don't check in, I will release them soon for other readers.
Agree. I think Adrian is 'owed' another, as he originally asked for 3 but it somehow got overlooked? So perhaps hold one for him?

Thanks for these lovely readings, Adrian. I really enjoyed listening to both!
They're both fine.
Just one thing I will mention is that there seems to be some kind of periodic clicking (I *think* may be mouseclicks?) while you're reading, on both files. I couldn't find a single noise by itself (ie, in the middle of a silence, which makes it hard to be sure so I'm not 100% certain - wanted to use my headphones to doublecheck, but they aren't cooperating at the moment. Is it possible there is quite a lot of mouseclicking going on? If so, maybe you could find a way to avoid or minimize?
Anyway, both fine readings - thank you.

Track Length : 3:15.63 (m:ss.ss)

Please let me know if this is okay, and if there's anything I should improve on.
Thank you.
Very nice reading indeed, Tasniim. I love the way you brought out the meaning, well done.
I will just highlight for your future learning (only if you want to hear, note! )that the stress on these two words is as follows:
imPUdent and laMENted. This is beyond standard PL, so if you don't want me to comment on things like this, just let me know.

Again, lovely reading!

Not to worry about these pronunciations! These minor variations are just fine. In fact, I've always heard and said IM-pu-dent And a quick check of some of the online dictionaries seems to confirm this. There are so many regional variations just in the U.S. and when we add British English, and dozens of other Englishes around the world, and non-native speakers of English we get the wonderful mix that we celebrate on LibriVox. That is not to say there aren't times when correct pronunciation is important, especially in poetry, for instance, or widely accepted place or proper names, but in general we are open to all voices.

Thank you for your comment, and thank you for listening.
Regarding the clicking, I just re-listened to 168, and I couldn't hear anything. I don't mouse when reading, I use a touch screen, and I generally only move the text during a silence that is cut out. Please listen again with headphones. If you can locate an artefact, do let me know, as I'm keen to improve my technique.

Hi
Thanks for getting back. Keeping on top of such a busy forum must be quite a task!
And thanks also for the heads-up on the end timings- I‘ll make sure they’re accurate in future once I’ve got a better grip on how Audacity works.
