The editor sure likes to talk about how you should treat your servants! :D
Nice reading, nice voice and read at a good pace (I'd only read more quickly if you want to, I was fine with the pace).

But I agree with Larry re. some of your pauses - some too long, end ones too short at times. I do recommend you pay attention to how many times you leave a pause of over 2 secs during a recording. (I know I do this, but I trim mine down in editing).

First - it's essential to get the silences at the beginning and end of every recording correct: no more than 1 sec (and preferably only .5) at the beginning, and a full 5 secs (as close as you can) at the end. Yours are varying and not reliably on spec.
80 needs a full 5 secs silence at the end.
I let 91 go by, though end is coming in just under 4.7.
On 92, you have a few very long silences during the recording. What's 'very long'? Anything over about 2 secs or so. If you leave too long a one, people start wondering if the file is at an end, if something is wrong with the recording, etc etc. I know it doesn't because I'm looking at the waveform, but listeners rarely do. Could you reduce them please?
On 92, these ones: ~ .23, those between the intro Librivox stuff (they really do not need to be so long, especially on a very short recording), ~ 1.2 (over 2 secs), ~ 1.35 (almost 3 secs), ~ 3.03
94 - reduce silence ~ 0.16 Increase end silence to a full 5 secs
96 PL OK!

Thanks Rachel. Lovely clear voice and nice readings with a good pace and rhythm, I enjoyed listening to you.

97 and 160 need a full 5 secs end silence and I can't accept them as is..

May I recommend that you pay attention to these as yours varied considerably? Should be a full 5 secs as close as you can. This is important for when the various individual files are compiled into the whole volume.
Otherwise, lovely.

Thanks for your patience. I'll keep an eye on the silence in the future. I have added an additional second of silence onto Section 160.

However, before I fix Section 97, I want to make sure I know what you mean. It looks like 5.5 seconds of silence at the end to me. Do I need to cut the last half second?
Thanks again,
Rachel

I would not reject a file with 5.5 at the end (which is fine BTW) but only when significantly under or wayyy too long over. Let me check and let you know, as I wonder if possibly 8 made a mistake? And thanks for querying.

Yes, of course.
Thank you.
Here's my recording -- hope it's okay that I went ahead and did it before hearing an "OK" https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/fablesofaesop_079_aesop_128kb.mp3 [2:08] Matthew Royal
Hi and thanks for reading Matthew. Very nice reading, but the file does not meet basic technical specs:
- volume too soft (below 80 dB)
- your bitrate is incorrect; it must be constant (not variable) and 128 kbps as in the filename
- the silence at the end needs to be 5 secs; yours is too short
As you have been a member for a while, I assume you know how to fix these? If not, please let us know.

Ok, I think it's loud enough now... let me know if it's still too soft -- I don't see a volume meter on Audacity that tracks to the "80 dB" standard; it measures the volume in negative decibels down from 0 db where clipping occurs. https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/fablesofaesop_079_aesop_128kb.mp3 [2:09]
Reading is thinking with someone else's head instead of one's own.

Thanks , all good now.
No, Audacity does lack that function, but you can use either Checker or MP3Gain to check the volume. There is an abundance of information if you search (eg, in the Librivox wiki) available on these. Eg, see https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker for info on Checker. If you run your file through that, it tells you whether basic tech specs are met. If you click on the Information tab in Checker, it will give you a dB reading. Yours is now 90.7 in Checker - don't make it any louder or it will be too loud. I use it routinely and commend it to you.

160 is great, thank you.

for 97, while it may 'look like' 5.5 to you, it isn't I'm afraid - it's actually 4.7. And if I run it and count one... and two... and ... it cuts out before I get to 5. Are you actually measuring or just approximating? Simple fix - add on a little. Better: highlight the exact bit at the end. Look at bottom of Audacity screen where it says 'Start and Length of Selection'. Yours starts at 2.38.6 and is 0.4.779 long. Yes, it's getting close and if it is really difficult to fix, I will accept as is. But better if it's closer to 5 or slightly over.

Yes, please supply the file length when advising. In this case, it is 1.57

It's a nice reading and thank you for getting all the tech specs correct, including beginning and end silences.
But... it's what is called a noisy recording. Meaning you have a lot of background noise - you can see this as the central line which during pauses should be straight and fine, but is thick and wavy throughout. It detracts from an otherwise good recording. It may have arisen if you had to amplify to get correct volume? Because Amplify of course amplifies any noise also.
Please would you run it through Noise Reduction? https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Noise_Cleaning
Any remaining noise (eg, the audible one right at the end, ~1.52) can be removed in Audacity by highlighting and pressing Ctrl-L.

Nicely read,Emma. Thank you. A couple of points:

115 - Something very odd happens to your volume and voice around ~1.32 which varies wildly in volume, and has an odd reverb effect for the next few seconds ~ 1.38 Are you able to fix or improve this, because it's very jarring? Also, could you make the silence before Application at least 1 full sec & preferably 1.5.

116 - Repeated phrase ~ 1.56

117 and 118 - please make the silence before Application at least 1 full sec & preferably 1.5. They are two separate sections, but you are running them together without giving listeners just a little pause to consider the fable before listening to the next bit.
[/quote]

Thanks for Pling.

I think I may need to record 115 as messed around with noise reduction too much!

Here's the others corrected:
