The Girl From Hollywood by Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875 - 1950).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-girl-from-hollywood-by-edgar-rice-burroughs/
( )
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://books.google.com/books?id=yt7PAAAAMAAJ
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Magic Window:

  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!

    • Say:
"The Girl From Hollywood, by Edgar Rice Burroughs. [Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of The Girl From Hollywood by Edgar Rice Burroughs. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of The Girl From Hollywood, by Edgar Rice Burroughs. "

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.
  • Example filename girlfromhollywood_##_burroughs_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. girlfromhollywood_01_burroughs_128kb.mp3)

I'll MC.

I'm going to shorten your text link. What I shorten it to is all you need; the rest is tracking and other nonessential stuff. ;)

Moved to Going Solo.

Go ahead and start uploading sections when you're ready. They'll get PL'd eventually; we don't have to have a DPL lined up right away.

You're in as DPL, Kevin. Thanks. :)

Interesting review (pan) of this book over at Google Books.

Now you've got me curious. But you know, some people didn't like 'Ishtar.' (That's probably a bad example, isn't it?)

Do you want me to post as I listen to the chapters or just tell you if there is a problem.

I'm up to five chapters done and all PL OK.

And I have to be honest. I don't think I can manage more than a chapter a day. I'll try to work faster, but...

You can just say when there's an issue, is fine.

What are you encountering that's a problem? Just time to do it? I remember the last one I thought you downloaded and listened while you were on your back recovering

To be honest, the story is just so blessed awful. Because I've been feeling better, I have other work to be done---not just LibriVox---and the choice between them is a bit more challenging, let's say. We can hope I crack a rib again, or that I'll steel myself to soap opera.

Would two chapters a day work?

BUT I want to add that you are doing a great job in the reading! That's not the issue at all.

If you would like Help with a DPL, I'm sure someone reading this may volunteer their time to the project.

As it is, get done what you can get done when you can get it done. It's not a Business here, so we don't have deadlines to get this out.

Thank You for your praise in my rendition. Always something nice to hear!

And finally: overall, the story really isn't "Horrible". It's just on the verge of "Wholesome". Anyone who was a fan of the show "7th Heaven" is more suited as the audience of a story like this.
Brothers and Sisters who love each other, playfully tease, and then dance a Foxtrot each night for hours between Wlatzes, in the clean country air while "laughing gayly"... yeah. Not my Jersey Childhood.
Give me his THE MUCKER, JOHN CARTER and TARZAN anyday!
