Coffee Break Collection 22 -- Bygone Days ( - 0).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/coffee-break-collection-22-days-gone-by-by-various/
This is the twenty-second Coffee Break Collection, in which Librivox readers select English language public domain works of about 15 minutes or less in duration -- perfect to listen to during commutes, workouts or coffee breaks. The topic for this collection is Days Gone By. All pieces should be of a historical nature at the time written (i.e. not enough that they are historical now!). Ancient Rome, Greece or Egypt, medieval Europe... Fiction, non-fiction, poetry, prose, essays... all are welcome here. Please restrict yourself to 3 contributions. ( )
  • There is no need to pre-claim.

New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!

Where do I find the text? Any Public Domain text is acceptable. Project Gutenberg is a good place to start.
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.
Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Do you mind giving a few more examples. I have recorded a fascinating piece from a Catholic Priest warning 'maidens' about the dangers of dancing. It's more sociological, I suppose, than historical so maybe I should submit it to another thread.

I thought about recording a piece about a yearning for the 'good ole days,' too, but I don't think that's what your looking for.

I wish to say, these collections are the best!

I had been thinking of Ancient Egypt, Rome, Greece, China, the dark ages. The point I was making was that all the works that are now PD could be considered “historical” even if the author wrote of what he did that morning... in 1850. But I am certainly open to other people’s interpretations and harking back to “the good old days” could well fit in with the theme. As for your dancing girls... up to you if you think they fit here or not. It’s unlikely I will turn it away

Dark ages it is. One of my interests. I'll have to find a short piece, though. Or a fragment that can stand alone.

On the hunt!

It's not really "historical" in the strict sense of the word, so I'd better ask: Can I read the creation myth of Japan?

It starts out with Izanami and Izanagi who have many decendants, one of them the first emperor of Japan. The interesting part of Japanese mythology is that at some point it seamlessly goes over into real history (not that I would read that far though).

If you'd rather have something hard and fast and true, I'll keep looking, no worries.
