Tommy Trot's Visit to Santa Claus by Thomas Nelson Page (1853 - 1922).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/tommy-trots-visit-to-santa-claus-by-thomas-nelson-page/
"A charming tale about an affluent Virginia boy who always gets what he wants at Christmas, only to discover his toys never make him quite happy. He begins to take pity on his poor neighbor Johnny, and slowly understands than only by giving can one find true happiness." ( Miles Smith)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/25896
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Magic Window:

  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
    START of recording (Intro):

"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Say:
"Tommy Trot's Visit to Santa Claus, by Thomas Nelson Page. [Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of Tommy Trot's Visit to Santa Claus by Thomas Nelson Page. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Tommy Trot's Visit to Santa Claus, by Thomas Nelson Page. "

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.
  • Example filename tommytrot_#_page_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. tommytrot_1_page_128kb.mp3)

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)

I'll MC for you. All set up!

As a soloist you are your own BC and in charge of the Magic Window - adding chapter titles, files, etc.. Don't worry it is easy to do!

Here is a link to a page in the wiki that explains how to access the MW and what you need to do: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Soloists:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window

Let me know if you have any questions.

We will wait here to see if we can snag a DPL! :-)

I would be happy to be your DPL.

You will need to put your files in the Magic Window though.

Will do - - - - as soon as I figure out how. Maria sent me the link to the wiki - - - but reading through the process seemed a little daunting. I need to do some studying.

Need guidance :help:

I'm on "First Time Accessing the System" and have clicked :"Login MCs & MCs" but I do not get a login screen. Instead I'm getting "Your do not have permissions for this area."

Can't get beyond this point to complete process and access MW for updating.

I'm sure I'm missing something. Suggestions ? ? ?

Are you logged into the uploader using the generic password? If so, log out and then try with your user name and the specific password you made for your MW login.

Well - - - - had to clear the browser cache to get past last bottleneck - - - but after about 10 attempts to get the system to send me the email to reset the workflow password I just gave up. Sooner or later it might send me the email to reset the password so I can log into the system and update the MW. Until then I guess we're at an impasse. :|

This is the third and final chapter for Tommy Trot. As soon as the system will cooperate I'll update the MW for access.

OK, I'll start on these soon.

Here is my one-minute quick guide.

1). Click on BC Admin, just below the MW on the left.
2). Copy and paste the URL for the file into the "Listen URL" column
4). Click on the Status box on the far right in that row and select "Ready for PL" from the drop-down menu.
5). Optional, but helpful, put the file length in the Notes column.

Once I have proof listened, I will change the status to PL OK, or See PL Notes.

Glad to be working with a Professional Voice Talent! :D

ETA: If you're still stuck, not to worry. It is only three sections, and I can do the MW for you -- takes just a minute.
I'll try to get to these this evening.

Hi Tom,

Here is a video one of our volunteers made about accessing and using the MW, maybe it will be helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cDPSmlTjGM&feature=youtu.be

I'll move this over to Going Solo.

Yup! I followed the video to the letter - - - - but the LV system never sent me the promised email to reset my password. Without that I'm "dead in the water."

Oh, dear. Did you check your spam folder perhaps? I'll see if I can dig anything up about similar situations...
