The Life of Ludwig van Beethoven, Volume I by Alexander Wheelock Thayer (1817 - 1897) .

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-life-of-ludwig-van-beethoven-volume-i-version-2-by-alexander-wheelock-thayer/

The first scholarly biography on the life of Ludwig Von Beethoven. Volume 1 ( Realisticspeakers)
Translator: Henry Edward Krehbiel
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/43591
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I'll happily DPL unless you are in a real rush to get this recording done.

I could DPL a chapter a week at the least, possibly more, but I don't want to over promise.

OK, your MW is ready for you, and Kevin is in as DPL! I shortened your file name just to make your life a little easier, if you want to shorten it further, feel free! I will move us as soon as I know everyone has seen what I have done.

Can we change the preamble to "Section X - Introduction/Preface/Chapter Y - Part Z" ?

You can your sections whatever you would like to call them. That is the beauty of having a solo project, you get to make the project what you want it to be. You also don't have to do what the template generator gives you, that's why I shortened your file name. Sometimes those file names come out a mile long because the title of the book is a mile long. We can fix things as we need to.

There is a passage in French.
I can't handle it.
Would it be possible to get someone to read it for me? Or is what I did in the file below actually intelligible?
I do not wish to embarrass myself again. My Scottish venture leaves me awake at night.

Supplique tres humble a S. A. S. E. de Cologne
pour Gille Vandeneet.

Bonn, d. 18 Feb., 1727.

Prince Serenissime,
Monsigneur.

Quoi faisant etc. etc.

I feel for you because I won't do long French passages either. I don't want to butcher a beautiful language! If you post in this thread HERE you can ask a French speaker for some help.
