I think skipping the last half of the introduction would be cutting too close to the policy of reading the text as written.

That portion isn't really very long, and it doesn't look like it would be difficult to read. It would perhaps be a little boring, but it's only a couple minutes' worth. So my position would be to read the whole thing or none of it.

Section 30 PL OK!

OK, so either this author is biased, or the "wresting of Panama from Colombia to build the canal" wasn't as heinous as I had heard it.

I hava a guide to south american countries which says that colombians still tend to resent it. The author may have exaggerated of course, but at least now I know something about the background.
Also, greetings from the Netherlands.

I'm back :)

And the section 29 is up. Judging by the contents of the Panama section, I was expecting to hear something more about how the whole canal affair even began, but at some point the author just jumps right in, talking about the French failure. Also, some info about the US-Panama treaty would have been good.
Anyway, that wraps it up. I won't be reading the introduction. I'll just lift some interesting bits of it to put them in the project description.

EDIT: Project description added.

I hope your holiday was good. :)

Well, considering the time period he had to work with in that section, and that he seems to focus more on politics than commercial and foreign policy, I guess the amount of time he spent on the canal made sense.

PL OK. Off to the catalog!
