[COMPLETE] The Bee People by Margaret Morley - philc
Hello,
I had a few bumps along the way delaying the project (namely the nasty cough that lingered for a couple weeks)... Here is the link for the file for chapter 14 at last:

Dear Phil,
I have re-recorded chapter 15 and here it is with chapter 16. They sound naive to my ear but an interesting first attempt. I hope that the rest of the book is coming together well and am intrigued to find out more. I read it straight but it felt as if it should have been in a more comic style. Look forward to hearing from you and all the best, Mark.

Hey powellb,
I'm sorry for taking such a long time PLing your section. I really enjoyed your narration. And I hope to PL your future sections.
My PL Note is related to the volume of the recording. It's an easy fix. I hope you are using Audacity because these steps are for Audacity.
The volume is 81.8 dB (according to the Checker). Our volume target range is between 86 to 92. So, you'll need to use Compressor first then amplify the whole recording.
Here's a tutorial on how to use the Compressor (https://youtu.be/-fKYYj6HMZU) done by Phil.
And if you want to know more about the Compressor you can watch this video (https://youtu.be/wJ3lOTDsN6c).
Go to Effects > Compressor
My settings are
Threshold: -20 dB
Noise Floor: -40 dB
Ratio: 8:1
Attack Time: 0.20 secs
Release Time: 1.0 secs
Uncheck Make-up gain for 0 dB after compressing and Compress based on Peaks.
Then go to Effects > Amplify
Type 8.1.
I got this number from using Replay Gain. Here's the third tutorial (https://youtu.be/Pz4GF3HEXV4). You can download ReplayGain from here (https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Measuring_Volume_within_Audacity)
I have Replay Gain under Analyze, not Effects.
Thanks! And have a great day.

Hey Sarah, glad you enjoyed the listen. I did indeed record using Audacity so I should be able to adjust the volume per your instructions... Might be a few days before I dive into it. Didn't look too hard, but might take a little time the first go around...

Hey Mark,
I really enjoyed your narration. I do have a very minor PL Note for you.
You have missed saying this in the LV intro "The Bee People, by Margaret Warner Morley. [Chapter]" You can say the Chapter's title only or you can say Chapter 15 Honey and Honey-Dew. Both are fine for this project.
The LV intro should be like this:
You don't have to re-record. You can record this sentence only in a sperate recording file and once you finish your editing steps (like noise reduction and so on) you take that sentence and add it to the original recording. Here's a tutorial for you: https://youtu.be/mLdJsoGQc9c?t=238 I do it a little differently from Phil.
Section 16:

- @00m:18.507s - Some of Miss Apis's wax cells. I don't hear "of". I hear "Some Miss Apis's wax cells." I may be wrong. So could you please double check this one?
- Please add 5 seconds of silence at the end of the recording.
Thanks, SaraHale.

You're most welcome, Brian. That's great! If you don't mind you can copy the file and try the instructions first. Just to be on the safe side. Please feel free to ask questions we will do our best to help you.powellb wrote: ↑June 26th, 2019, 7:19 pm Hey Sarah, glad you enjoyed the listen. Sara. I assumed the needed fixes would not be done so I fixed 'em. Only one chapter waiting, and I sent the claimer a PM. This will be buzzing along into our catalog very soon..... thanks to your help.
Thanks! Which chapter 1 or 17? I'm super excited about that. I'm 100% sure that our listeners will enjoy this one. All readers did an AWESOME job with the narration.philchenevert wrote: ↑June 28th, 2019, 5:59 pm Sara. I assumed the needed fixes would not be done so I fixed 'em. Section 17, The Family Exodus, has been put back into the pot for anyone to claim. This is the last unrecorded section folks, so let's get those little buzzers snuggled happily into their hive
