A Little Freckled Person: A Book of Child Verse by Mary Carolyn Davies (1888-1940?).

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/a-little-freckled-person-a-book-of-child-verse-by-mary-carolyn-davies/
Here is a delightful collection of short verses for children by Mary Carolyn Davies. Seeing the world through child-like imagination, these light-hearted poems are of trains, fishing, gardening, fairies and so much more. ( SweetHome)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/32553
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I wanted to record a poem book with my daughter (LittlePeanut). The poems in this book are short – so they should probably be grouped together. I’m thinking 10-11 poems per section and she would read some and I would read some within the same section.

I'm not sure if I set it up right, as I set it up as a solo, when in fact it is two of us doing the reading.

Edited: MC and DPL most welcome.

I'll let an MC advise you on the set up, but I would be glad to join you as DPL.

what a cute little book and the idea to do it as a duet with your daughter is sweet :9:

But you're right, it's technically not a solo then. We have other duets and they are all archived as "Collaborative", which is more accurate. I will MC this and make the necessary changes :)

I also seem to have found some dates for the author. She had quite a sad life at the end :( https://oregonencyclopedia.org/articles/davies_mary_carolyn_ca_1890_/#.XMKmqzAzbcs

All right, this is set up. Larry is in as DPL (thank you Larry :9: ). I shortened the file-name and we only need a one-digit section number as there are less than 10 sections. I also think it's best to call them Sections instead of Chapters. Just have a look at the disclaimer and let me know if you agree or you prefer to say it differently.

I put both you and Little Peanut in each section, as I seem to understand that you will both read in all of them. If that's not the case, we can easily take out one of you of a section where you don't appear.

Ok, since the team is complete, I can move us to "Readers Found". :D Have fun recording.

Thank you both for joining this project! My daughter is super excited to be recording more for Librivox. Thank you Sonia for making all the necessary corrections and the disclaimer looks great.

First section completed and uploaded :).

Oh, how delightful and charming!
You two sound so good together and the little poems are read with that special childlike charm.

The only question I have is about the intro. I think we need the full LV disclaimer, at least at the beginning of the first section. I don't know if we can use the shortened disclaimer used for solo projects for the subsequent sections since this is technically going to be a collaborative project. Sonia can give some guidance on that.

Also the last name of the author is Davies, not Davis, so I think it rhymes with "navies." At least that is my experience with this name, but that is up to you.

Really looking forward to listening to the rest of your reading! :D

I'll mark this for PL notes, but the reading itself is PL OK.

yes we can use the shorter disclaimer, since for poetry we often do that anyway, even in group projects. Only say the full intro in the very first section please. I noted that down underneath the MW, for easy reference. :)

thank you

Oops and oops! Thanks for those catches. I've done the proper disclaimer now for the first one. Fixed the pronunciation of the author's name.
