PL NOTES:
A very nice reading / recitation, Robin.
Only two technical details keep it from being PL OK:
  • LV wants there to be between 0.5 and 1.0 seconds of silence at the start of the file and yours has a bit less then 0.25 seconds.
  • LV asks for 5 seconds of silence at the end of the file, yours has 11 seconds.

I double checked the recording, because I knew there wasn't that much silence at the end. Actually, there was 5.5 seconds of silence at the end, not 11. I trimmed off the extra half a second. Since you want half a second at the beginning, I added half a second to the beginning, too. However, the rules are actually that there is to be no more then .5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning, not that there needs to be silence at the beginning. https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/ProofListening_tips_and_quiz The length is still 57 seconds.

Robin: you're absolutely correct!
Recently I had the same experience: the trailing space on another file seemed to be 10+/- seconds, but on subsequent examination it was (as your is) almost exactly the desired 5 seconds. This morning I figured out the source of my mistake. I had zoomed in one extra level too many and the tick-marks at the top of the Audacity wave form window were showing HALF SECONDS, not full seconds. Thus the actual 5 seconds looked like 10 seconds and your 5.5 looked like 11 (5 doubled).

Early in my recording life at LV, I was told that the wording in the instructions was misleading and what "they" really wanted was something BETWEEN .5 and 1.0 seconds at the start of the file. I'm not going to worry about that any more.

Your offering is now PL OK !

Hello,

Here is my contribution. This is my first recording for LibriVox after passing my 1-minute test. I would like to be credited as Gail Wamba in the catalog and there's no website to link at this time.

Yes, Paula. The deadline is mentioned in the Opening Post, which for all practical purposes is this Saturday night. You have plenty of time.
