The Garden
Andrew Marvell (1621–1678)

I could also load up a piece from Sir Thomas Browne's Pseudodoxia, about the fanciful and fake science of the time in relation to vegetables, but I don't want to hog space, if there's a limit.

Hi - here's my contribution to the collection:
"The Beauty of the Pollen", by S. Leonard Bastin. From The Strand Magazine, Vol. 39, dated January to June, 1910.
MP3 link: https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/cb019_beautyofpollen_gb_128kb.mp3
Text link: https://archive.org/stream/TheStrandMagazineAnIllustratedMonthly/TheStrandMagazine1910aVol.XxxixJan-jun#page/n491/mode/1up
Length is 08:09.
I could find out very little about this author, except that he'd lived at addresses in Bournemouth and Lyndhurst in Hampshire, England. Winston (k5hsj), however, very kindly carried out some genealogical work on his name. He discovered three entries for Samuel Leonard Bastin, all having connections with Hampshire. One was born in Alton, Hampshire in 1880, one is described as a journalist who had connections with the Bournemouth area, and one who died at the age of 66 in 1947 in the Christchurch district, near Bournemouth. It seems to me more likely than not that these entries all refer to the same person, and probably the writer of this article. I hope so, anyway
