A Golden Day by Ella Wheeler Wilcox (1850 - 1919).
A delightful little poem describing what it feels like to greet a sunny spring day and let the rest of your cares slide away. ( Michele Fry)
This project is now complete!
All audio files can be found on our catalog page:
https://librivox.org/a-golden-day-by-ella-wheeler-wilcox/

Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers as possible!
This week's poem can be found here.

Set your recording software to:
Channels: 1 (Mono)
Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44100 kHz

Have questions on "how"?
Check LV's Recording Notes thread before recording. If this is your first recording, you'll also find this Newbie Guide to Recording useful.
Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
A Golden Day by Ella Wheeler Wilcox, read for LibriVox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, your location, and/or your personal url.]
Then read the poem:
The subtle beauty of this day
Hangs o'er me like a fairy spell,
And care and grief have flown away,
And every breeze sings, "All is well."
I ask, "Holds earth of sin, or woe?"
My heart replies, "I do not know."
Nay! all we know, or feel, my heart,
To-day is joy undimmed, complete;
In tears or pain we have no part;
The act of breathing is so sweet,
We care no higher joy to name.
What reck we now of wealth or fame?
The past---what matters it to me?
The pain it gave has passed away.
The future---that I cannot see!
I care for nothing save to-day---
This is a respite from all care,
And trouble flies---I know not where.
Go on, oh, noisy, restless life!
Pass by, oh, feet that seek for heights!
I have no part in aught of strife;
I do not want your vain delights.
The day wraps round me like a spell,
And every breeze sings, "All is well."

At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.

Please leave 5 seconds of silence at the end of your recording.
Save your recording as an mp3 file using the following filename and ID3 tag format:
File name - all in lowercase: goldenday_wilcox_your initials in lowercase_128kb.mp3

ID3 tags (Version 2):
Artist Name: Ella Wheeler Wilcox

I have one for you too! On a side note, I haven't seen any Weekly Poetry lately. Do you know if this is still a thing? I quite enjoyed it :D.

Campbell, I hope to be back with the Weekly Poetry next week, we are undergoing renovations here at home, things have been difficult for the last couple of weeks.

Thanks, Campbell. Your poem is PL OK.

As to weeklies and fortnightlies, anyone is eligible to propose a poem in the Poetry Suggestions forum and either David or someone else might step up to BC it if it interests them, or you can do it yourself. Have you BC'd before?

I have BC'd before. I would be willing to BC this next weeks if nobody else wants to, I just didn't want to take over something that is normally done by one person :D.

EDIT: I should have been clearer. I have BCd before, but not a fortnightly/weekly poem before. Is there a difference in process?

Wait, wait... Can I wish once more?... I wish all wishes were so easily granted. Aw... probably a wish too many... But your reading is PL OK! :D

Some differences, yes. First, you put up a poem over in Suggestions, and offer to BC it, and David lets you know when there is an opening. Then you open the Project Template Generator, fill it in, selecting Weekly or Fortnightly from the drop down box, the rest is fairly normal, and post your topic to the New Projects Launch Pad. From there you adjust your Opening Post by adding in and formatting the poem where it says PASTE POEM HERE (or some such), and you add in the MC XXX-XXXXX, and the ending date (always a Sunday). The rest is just a matter of PL'ing and filling in the MW. Another difference. . . . . before cataloguing you have to arrange the files in alphabetical order, by the Reader's Initials.

Hop to it, girl! And don't hesitate to ask for help.

Thank you so much! I have a poem in mind, and will go ahead and post it in suggestions!

Thanks for that "Sunday Share", Bill, which is PL OK. Did you not have a wish you wanted me to grant, being that I am granting wishes today? :P

Wishes?
Hmmm......
Let me picture something.
I'm image-ing something but can't quite put my finger on it.

OH! I know: please record a 2nd version of this poem with a Cajun dialect. Share that with the world on this Sunday.
