A night editor at a New York paper escapes to the country to avoid a nervous breakdown. Providence lands him in the middle of a loving Quaker family in time to save them from being roasted by a lightning strike. Then what could be more natural than falling in love with a girl already engaged to someone else? Truly, it was a Day of Fate for him. "Some shallow story of deep love." -Shakespeare (LikeManyWaters)
Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard
IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated). Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!
The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording! START of recording (Intro):
"Chapter [number] of A Day of Fate. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Say: "A Day of Fate, by Edward P. Roe. [Chapter]"
For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
"Chapter [number] of A Day of Fate by Edward P. Roe. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Only if applicable, say: "[Chapter title]"
END of recording:
At the end of the section, say: "End of [Chapter]"
If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
At the end of the book, say (in addition): "End of A Day of Fate, by Edward P. Roe. "
There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.
Example filename dayoffate_##_roe_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. dayoffate_01_roe_128kb.mp3)
Transfer of files (completed recordings) Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
I'll see if you get a DPL soon. If not, I'll do it, but I felt a bit stressed with the pace you set on your other solo (since I'm also DPL'ing other projects that with the March cleanup are coming in faster than usual), so I won't put myself in right away.
Okay I've noted that you don't mind extra suggestions regarding PL'ing. So far your reading has been great so no extra PL needed at all. Just a side comment that I'm glad there was some dialog in the text I was wondering if it was going to be all narration...
I've PL'ed chapter 4 and there are a few glitches you might want to redo
At 8:17 you might choose to check the pronunciation of “ideality” in “ I have not yet seen a trace of ideality in her mind.
Also occurs at 17:27 in “Has she not developed among scenes that should ennoble her nature, and enrich her mind with ideality? There is Oriental simplicity and largeness…”
at 15:17 missing line in “"You are delightfully frank.""Yes, I usually say what I think." "And do as you please," I added. "Certainly. Why shouldn't I when I can? Don't you?"
