Nice reading! Perfectly OK! Are these stories real? That can't have really happened.
Thank you! I've been assuming they are real, as they are certainly presented that way (with maybe some storytelling liberties taken in filling in details--it's hard to know without access to whatever reference material (likely court records is my guess) the original author used. At that time, someone writing fiction with these horrific details would probably have been banned from publishing because fiction in general was very suspect, whereas non-fiction could be presented as somehow didactic and moral (here are some horrible things people did -- don't be like them!) whereas dreaming up something horrible would be a sign of the author's evil or lunatic nature.

True. These are just so crazy though, that’s insane!

Nice reading! I actually do have a note this time though:
around 5:59 - missing text: "acquainted him with the grounds of their suspicions...a special warrant for that purpose"

Well, that was weird. I was reading the epub version, exported from Gutenberg to my Google Drive and then opened in my iPad Books app, which is how I've been doing all the PG texts for some time. Apparently a paragraph got "eaten" somehow in the export, because the way I had read it is how it appears in my text -- I thought at the time the transition seemed weird and abrupt but it didn't occur to me that something might have been dropped out.

Anyway I went back and used the HTML version on the site to record and insert the missing chunk, so it should be at the link now. Adjusted time for the file is 25:28.

Thanks, and thanks for your attentive PL-ing!

Weird! That is strange that it would have disappeared like that. I do admit, I wondered either how your eyes would jump from that strange place or how you would edit out so much text . That explains it. It is all good now!

I would like to read sections 3, 4, 6, 8, and 44. That's Jonathan Wild, John Price, John Whalebone, and Henry Fisher.

Section 44 (10:26)

https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/mostremarkablecriminals2_44_hayward_128kb.mp3

I corrected one typo (cited by line of the HTML source, page number tag, and time in file):
l. 18783, #Page_419, 6:41:
for “be took up” read “he took up”
