Nice work, Trevor! What an interesting introduction to the story! I'm already so sad for them, even though Burbo is so happy. We already know from the title that Mammut is the last, and not the first of a new race like his father hopes.

I do need a couple of corrections to this recording:
  • 1:00-1:02 Text here reads "...but caution was ever an elephant trait." I hear, "was never an elephant trait," which is the direct opposite.
  • 8:56 The elephant bellow you used here is super cool, but we can't use it, I'm sorry. :( Here is the official policy on sound effects, and what it boils down to is, "Just don't." The reason is that it's just too hard to prove public domain status of any sound clip we might wish to use. So you'll just have to do your best to give a good "A-yee, a-yee!" with your voice.

Thank you! Im really liking the story so far despite it being obvious that its not gonna end too well for these beautiful creatures :(

Dang, i wasnt sure if the sound effect was going to be allowed. I suppose I should have checked first. My apologies. I used it because when i tried to do the a-yee, a-yee it was pretty cringe worthy lol. Ill give it my best shot!

Ill try to get those corrections made soon. Hopefully this evening.
Thanks!

Thanks a lot. Whenever you have time, no pressure. I also already assigned you section 25, as you may have seen, but I forgot to introduce you to your new reader page:

https://librivox.org/reader/13163

Here you'll find everything you're working on. Currently, it's just this project. Eventually, it will include all projects you've ever worked on, both completed and in-progress. :)

Indeed it is. In fact, it has been shown to have addictive properties. Consider yourself warned.

Devorah,

Please find the latest. https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/firstamericananimals_15_langford_128.mp3

Runtime 16:29

This has the intro edits you require and I ran the compression on a couple of sections. Reader's Note: This story has several female characters that I have to interpret. The two most challenging (for me) are supposed to have annoying seabird voices. I must have succeeded because you've asked me to run the compressor over them - LoL!

Starting Section 16 unless otherwise directed.

Nicely done! The inserted phrase sounds great. No one would be able to tell that it was recorded at a different time.

I usually just run the compressor over my whole recording, rather than just select portions. Then it will tend to even everything out pretty nicely. Sometimes I'll only choose a small portion to run it on, though. It's worth playing around with and see what works. (Note: There have been times in my experience when it has, for some mysterious reason, reduced the volume of a part of a phrase to such a low level that it sounds like the phrase is fading in or something. Maybe it's got something to do with my voice or my settings. I don't know. But it's something I've tried to be careful about ever since I noticed it happening.)

Oh yeah, and actually, I loved your seabird voices! :D

Thanks, Kristin. It's in the MW. I doubt I'll be able to PL for another 2 or 3 days. You can start the next section(s) at your own pace, though, whenever you're ready. You don't have to wait for me if you don't want to. :)

That's because I'm not an MC (meta coordinator). I'm the BC (book coordinator) for this project. They're two separate roles. MC for this project is Annise. You can always find who the MC is in a given project by looking at the first post of the project, near the link to the uploader. You can also see it in abbreviated form at the end of the subject line: "~[GRP] Stories of the 1st American Animals Langford d. 1964-ans"
