Thank you, Flamboyant Otter!

I've also fixed this, ready for a spot-check:

I've done The Cats of Ulthar by H.P. Lovecraft
The recording is 8 minutes and 40 seconds in length.

I'd like to be listed as Steve Mann in the catalog

Quite ok, but at the end of the file are nearly 14 seconds silence - remember from the first post: 'Please leave 5 seconds silence at the end of your recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes!'

Welcome to Librivox and to the Ghost and Horror Story Collection! Image

Congrats on your first recording!
Here's your Reader Page in the catalogue: https://librivox.org/reader/13349
It lists all projects you've recorded for, so it might look a bit empty now, but I hope you enjoy recording and gradually fill it up!

The test recording Gavenport mentioned is advisable to do before recording a long piece, to prevent wrong tech specs or sound quality distortions etc. Fortunately I think we can work on your recording without needing re-recording.

The recordings must be in mono (single track); yours is now in stereo (double track).
What recording software are you using? If Audacity, you can easily change this recording from stereo to mono, from menu Tracks, option "Mix" ->
"Mix stereo down to mono".
Then to record in mono, go to menu Edit -> Preferences, go to "Devices", Recording, Channels, and choose 1 (Mono) from the drop down menu.
Click OK, and it saves the setting for all future recordings.
Let me know if it doesn't work.

The volume is a bit low. Visually in Audacity, the wave-form should peak above the 0.5 mark (just not all the way up/down to avoid clipping). You can use the "Amplify" effect for this recording, then for future recordings it's better to adjust your input microphone volume.
There is an instance of a laugh at 7:38, which, because it peaks higher than the rest of the recording, hinders the recording to be amplified in whole. I would suggest de-amplifying just that part by -5, so that then you can amplify the whole recording by 5. There are also other ways to do it, like the Leveller, or the Compressor.

Now, because of the amplification, the background white noise may get amplified too. If you find it intrusive, you can use the Noise Reduction effect.

Next, Gavenport will do the standard proof-listening when he gets a chance, for any missed edits or other stuff that needs fixing, and then you can work on the recording.

I don't know how tech-savvy you are, so if something is unclear, or you need more guidance, please ask :D
Some comments from me but first: I like your voice - I liked listening to the story!

Stereo → has to be mono / 128 kb
volume is below 80db – perfect match would be 89 db (+/- 2 db)
Complete file: background hissing
clicks, mouse-clicks, breaths and mouth noises on a regular basis

at 7:38 a laugh: ‚ha-HA‘ - volume of the second ‚HA‘ should be lowered a bit. - 5 db is a good value as mentioned by Rapunzelina before

at 10:42 a disturbing crack followed by mouse clicks – please cut or silence it
uhh – it‘s a forgotten edit from 10:42 to 10:49 i think

~ 25:00 dogs barking, street noises…

Is 20 the maximum number of recordings for this collection?

It's a nice round number for a collection. So it's time to start a new one now. I will set one up within the day.

Gavenport, it'd be great if you'd like to continue as the DPL in the next collection, I just wasn't sure if you wanted to. :)
