I would like to contribute "The Inmost Light" by Arthur Machen, from the anthology "The House of Souls".

Go for it :thumbs:

Thank you for double checking the source. Gutenberg.org (usa) is the only source we trust to faithfully verify the public domain status of more recent texts. This is ok to use :thumbs:

The Nameless city

the duration of the file is 28 minutes and 55 seconds

this is my first recording for librivox and I would just simply like to be known as Dean Delp

also now that ive submitted and uploaded my recording, heres a link to it if that helps? sorry im still very new to this obviously. I am also aware that this story has been put in other collections before.

One note about your text source. I gather from the information on the pga site that this is a reprint, but it was published in 1938, which may attract copyright in the united states. Here is a source of the 1921 version, http://www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/thenamelesscity.htm
@Carolin: Text corresponds to 1921 version :)

Intro is about 0,05 sec and title and author is missing: File starts with ‚This is a Librivox rec...
Overall volume is a bit over the limit (-2,2 db to 89 db).

Optional: Some noise-reduction would be nice. And there are many (low) clicks and mouth-noises - not this disturbing.

As I am working on "The Inmost Light" I see it will be like an hour and a half long or so. Is that too long for this project? I would like to finish it, it's a good story but maybe not for this project?
What do you think?

That would be too long. You can choose: you can either make this a tiny solo of two or three sections or you can split the story in half and i will give you two sections in this project. Thank you!

Hi, I want to do a recording of The Music of Erich Zann by H.P Lovecraft, but I am not sure if this source checks out, it seems to be PD, and I found the link on gutenberg, could someone please confirm whether or not this source is good?

Thanks.

Hiya, good choice for a story! The source might be pd, but as it is dated 1925 im not absolutely sure. But i found this source for you http://dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/themusicoferichzann.htm this says 1922 which makes it automatically pd. Are you okay with using this text instead? Thank you!

Leave no more than 0.5-1 second of silence at the beginning of your file.
Make sure you add this to the beginning and end of your recording:
Start of recording (Intro)
• "[Story title] by [Author name]. - This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
• If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name]"
• Say:
"[Story title] by [Author name]."

Last point is missing

So it‘s no word-perfect PL‘ing required at 5:13 is a complete sentence missing:
„Its size was very great, and seemed the greater because of its extraordinary barrenness and neglect.“
(Normally on standard PL I don‘t read the text while listening so this was ‚luck‘ recognizing this variation)

at 14:19 you made ‚beyond‘ to ‚above

between 14:59 and 15:03 is a ‚long‘ break

at 17:08 a word added: ...which one might see ‚over‘ the slope…

at 19:01 you read: „...while all through the garret strange things seemed to dance...“
text: „...while all through the garret strange currents of wind seemed to dance...“

at 19:39 a word missing: „...racing mindlessly out into the narrow,...“

There might be any wrong readings before the missing sentence – I didn‘t follow until then word by word.

Some technical advice:
Try to read a text at once. If you misspell something or a child or cat is crying or something like this then stop reading but not recording and then go on at that point when it went wrong and repeat it. You can cut the wrong sequencies out after recording.
I could hear every recording-stop and starting over because of different sounding of your voice. It was not this disturbing but a bit irritating listen to.

There is a overall humming in the background you can easily analyse and delete with ‚Noise reduction‘ (Audacity)

This has to be adjusted:
The overall volume is to low – adjust + 5 db – but you can‘t correct the file as it is now. You have many peaks and if you want to adjust the overall volume you may first use compression to lower the peaks and then you can adjust the volume.

Please leave 5 seconds silence at the end of your recording

I too noticed several problems on a relisten,
And I think that halfway through I started standing closer to the microphone.

Thanks for the proofread, at this point I don’t have the energy to fix that many problems.

I think I will just leave it and redo it in it’s entirety later.

Thank you both!

It is up to you how you deal with the edits, but i encourage you to learn all you can about editing such things. It isnt very difficult, and makes recording much much easier :)

After I submitted this I read some of the other comments and on checking, saw that the silence at the end was too short. This now has 0.5 at the head and 5 seconds at the tail of the story.
Fixed version;
A Room in the Tower by E.F. Benson
Length 33:18

Here is my submission for the project;

I was going to do "The Inmost Light " but I think I'll finish it and submit another time.

This website doesn't work for me. There is an internal error 500 showing. I tried with different browsers.
