Blessings for Chanukah by Jessie E. Sampter (1883 - 1938).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/blessings-for-chanukah-by-jessie-e-sampter/
Jessie Sampter was a Jewish educator, poet, and Zionist pioneer. She was born in New York City and immigrated to Palestine in 1919. In her twenties, she joined the Unitarian Church and began writing poetry. Her poems and short stories emphasized her primary concerns: pacifism, Zionism, and social justice. ( Wikipedia)
Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers as possible!

Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:

Blessings for Chanukah by Jessie E. Sampter, read for LibriVox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, your location, and/or your personal url.]
Then read the poem:
Blessed art Thou, O God our Lord,
Who made us holy with his word,
And told us on this feast of light
To light one candle more each night.

(Because when foes about us pressed
To crush us all with death or shame,
The Lord his priests with courage blest
To strike and give his people rest
And in the House that he loved best
Relight our everlasting flame.)

Blest art Thou, the whole world's King,
Who did so wonderful a thing
For our own fathers true and bold
At this same time in days of old!

At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.

Please leave 5 seconds of silence at the end of your recording.
