Hi Craig--

Here is my Section 11 "On the Imperfection of Words":

https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/humanunderstandingvol3_11_locke_128kb.mp3
52:25

An interesting chapter--Locke reminds us how difficult it can be to convey an idea in words so that it means the same thing in the minds of both the speaker and the hearer. Seems like I've attended innumerable training classes at work about that same subject.
Kind regards,
Lucretia

Thanks Lucretia :D

It sure is hard for me to understand people today. It must have been tough in 1690.

I'll leave it sit and see if I get a proof listener.

Well, rats. I was carrying the files upstairs and downstairs (and upstairs and downstairs) on a thumb drive to make corrections. Clearly got a file and/or a correction fumbled. I think I may need to refine my process just a tad. :hmm:

Corrected file:

Thanks for the careful PL'ing!

You did as good job Lubee. Perhaps you have too many computers.

Yes, undoubtedly true on the surplus computers. But it's either carry the thumb drive down the stairs to my recording area (quieter than on the main floor) or carry a laptop down the stairs. I'm probably safer on the stairs with the thumb drive. I hope so anyway. (But I would swear---SWEAR--that I fixed that repeat before uploading. Drives me crazy! I'll have to get more organized on those longer sections.)

Thanks very much, Craig.
Kind regards,
Lucretia

Thanks for section 3 Chad.

A few errors noted.

Hum in the beginning could be silenced –

6:38 each of which having in it a conformity to that abstract idea, repetition

21:48 what do we else but rank things under different specific repetition

22:50 you recorded a little break for a drink of water here

23:46 but if any one will regulate himself herein – repetition

26:26 and rain is as essentially different from snow as water from earth - repetition

26:55 you recorded another break

26:25 It is true, there is ordinarily supposed a real constitution of the sorts of things; and it is past doubt there must be some real constitution - some repetition

29:48 recorded another break

30:07 that the name of any sort of things cannot be attributed to any particular being but what has this essence, whereby it answers that abstract idea whereof that name is the sign. Repetition

32:10 since it is as impossible that two things partaking exactly of the same real essence should have different properties, as that two figures partaking of the same real essence of a circle should have different properties. Repetition

33:27 recorded another break

35:46 recorded another break and then stumbled on the beginning of 19

36:12 speaking of are essences, may further appear by what we are told concerning essences - some repetition

39:09 yet, supposing those names to stand for complex abstract ideas that contained no inconsistency in them, the essence of a mermaid is as intelligible as that of a man; and the idea of an unicorn as certain, steady, and permanent as that of a horse. Repetition

40:09 20. Recapitulation.
To conclude. This is that which in short I would say, viz. that all the great business of GENERA and SPECIES, and their ESSENCES, amounts to no more but this: - repetition
