[Complete] Child of Storm by H. Rider Haggard - lt
OK, thanks for the Help, History, and the Ha-ha's (had to maintain the alliteration).
I think I'm ready to give my new setup a try. I've been going back-and-forth on the one-minute read.
At least I got the technical specs down, the big hurdle will be getting quiet time.

I couldn't find this book in Reader's Wanted or in Reader's Found. Have all the sections been assigned? I'm not ready to request another, but would love to when I'm done with this one. I wasn't sure if the table I see at the beginning of this thread got updated.
One section sounded really good, but the setup was uncomfortable. I tried to make it easier, but got interference from my laptop.
I've recorded about 75% of Chapter 4,but some of it will have to be redone if I can't clean it up. Amazing how I finally had a night to myself to record, and there was a persistent thunderstorm!

The book is still in Readers Wanted... did you look in the right forum? We also have. Readers Wanted: Short Works, Poetry and Prose.
The Magic Window is kept up to date, so all sections that say open are still up for grabs.

I would like to now claim Ch 6, if I may.
Please let me know if there is anything you would like to hear changed.

Please note we have a file naming convention as set out in the first post. Don't worry about it for now. If there are no edits needed, I can change it. If there are edits required, please upload with the correct file name
-- or _04_ in this case. There is no need to add the date... the file is automatically date and time stampedchildofstorm_##_haggard_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. childofstorm_01_haggard_128kb.mp3)
Also, how long is the file please (in mm:ss)
Sorry about missing the part of the file name.
It is 43:39 in duration.
Here's hoping the second goes more easily.

Thank you. I have changed the file name on the server.
Being a non-technical person, I think of the server as a giant filing cabinet, and each project having its own folder in the cabinet. If a file has the wrong name (not following the convention), it's like loose paper that falls to the bottom of the drawer and no one knows where it belongs The MC can fix it, but it becomes very time-consuming if there are more than a couple.
Here’s something I’ve been flopping around in my mind since I submitted the recording.
For the beginning of the recording I first used:
"Child of Storm, by H. Rider Haggard. [Chapter]"
Then I re-read the instructions and convinced myself that:
o "Chapter [number] of Child of Storm. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
Was to be at the beginning, so that is on the copy you have.
Now I look at it and the first seems better for each chapter and the longer one should just be for the beginning of the book.
I figured you didn’t want both in there, as it would be redundant.
Please let me know which is better. I can redo Ch 4 with the right one, if I chose wrongly.
Hopefully, I'll be able to finish recording Chapter 6 tonight.

I'm pleased you are thinking things through, rather than simply accepting them, but there is reasoning behind this apparent madness.Keratak wrote: ↑June 11th, 2019, 12:53 pm Here’s something I’ve been flopping around in my mind since I submitted the recording.

In a solo recording (with one reader reading every chapter), the second and subsequent chapters do have a shortened disclaimer (or, at least, it is an option).
For collaborative or group projects, we need the full disclaimer at the start of every section, because each separate reader has to acknowledge their recording is in the Public Domain. And even if a single reader takes several sections, that is the blanket rule (the first part of that statement is a legal requirement... the second might just be LV 'rules', but we have to go with it I'm afraid)
Ok, so it sounds like I did it right.
