If you take out the numbers there were only 5 for an hour of tough reading. I think you did well.

I'll take Andrew Johnson Section 1 (Andrew Johnson, State of the Union Address, December 3, 1867) through "It gives me great pleasure..."

Welcome to the project. You are now in the MW. Please note, this is section 8, not section 1. Have fun and let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Gary,
It's been along PL day. I need a break from this chair. I'll try and get back later tonight but if not, I'll certainly get section 7 PLed tomorrow.

Gary,
Nice job with 1866. We finally made it to a billion dollars of debt.

Thanks, Linny, for catching my errors! For some reason, I found this one to be fairly tough to get straight.

If you want, I will "correct" the second discrepancy to say 1886, but I thought it was a stretch for Andrew Johnson to be guessing what the receipts and expenditures would be under Grover Cleveland's administration. It does appear that he really wrote 1886.

Oh good grief. I was certainly not thinking. Yes, please leave that 'error'.

Section 7: OK, I'll leave the "error". I'm very busy tonight with work; I'll try to turn the other two errors around tomorrow evening.

BTW, I learned a little of the backstory on this one. Johnson had one of his staff write this address and he did not speak before Congress with it. Instead, it was delivered to Congress where it was read into the record. That, apparently, was not uncommon at that time.

Gary,
Thank you for the update. No problem with taking a few days.

You are correct. During that time it was standard practice for the address to be written. It actually wasn’t even referred to as ‘State of the Union’ until much later.

I'm of 2 minds with the 1866/1886 issue, but I think it makes more sense to the listener if it says "1866". I know I don't always get it right in what I say or write.

Gary,
Thank you for the corrections. Spot check PL OK.

I understand. I'm also of the mind to not confuse the listener any more than possible.

Thank you for your help. :D
