December 10th is the target date.

Okay, my mistake. For the ID-3 tags and file names, instead of using Roman numberals, please use Arabic ones as follows:

The ID-3 tags should be:

Title: [stave number goes here, e.g., Stave_3]
Artist: Dickens, Charles
Album: A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas

The file name should be the short title and the stave number, as:

A_Christmas_Carol_Stave_3.

For the first section, which includes the preface, please use:

A_Christmas_Carol_Preface_and_Stave_1

Hmm, my local copy is just fine, and the one i uploaded is the same size...
Did you start playing it before it was completely downloaded? I've done that before, and it confused iTunes... Would you check again, or if that fails, try re-downloading the file?

This is really weird, Kara. I can play the whole thing in Windows Media Player, but in Real Player, the timing is slightly different, and the end is lopped off. I imported the MP3 into Cakewalk Sonar, and it's definitely all there. I'll try recompressing it and see what happens.

Okay, Kara, this is really weird. The same thing happened with my compressed version. It works fine in Windows Media Player. In Real Player, the date gets cut off, and you can't hear the location at all. In iTunes, you hear almost the whole date, and then it cuts off.

Is anyone else having these sorts of problems with variable performance in different players?

It works fine in Windows Media Player on my son's windows box.

Will make further tests later, going to the park now :)

Ok, it works fine in iTunes on both windows and mac at my house. Works fine in Winamp in windows. Works fine in Audion (ick) on the mac.

Real Player does indeed cut off a second or so at the end, which confirms what I've always felt about Real Player --- it stinks :)

I am disinclined to "fix" it, as it seems to be Real Player which needs the fixing, heh. And, any listener who uses Real will only be missing the date, anyway. If Real seems to cause problems with other files (ALL files?) we can put a warning up somewhere, I guess.

Thoughts?

I am disinclined to fix it as well. Perhaps from now on we can leave a few extra seconds at the end of each file.

A little bird has just told me that we'd like to podcast A Christmas Carol starting on December 19th. So, I'm wondering how everyone is doing with their chapters. Anyone in trouble? If so, there's no shame. Let me know, and I'll get a substitute.

Target date for completion is December 10th, just enough time to get everything lined up for our podcast on the 19th.
