I know. At least some of the states had freshwater pearls, which I can understand. Current state gems of KY and TN are freshwater pearls. I grew up in New Jersey and I had no idea there were so many semi-precious stones there! In spite of that NJ has no state gem or stone! I learned a lot about punching in on this chapter, so thank you.
