Stories of the Victoria Cross by Frank Mundell (1870 - 1932).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/stories-of-the-victora-cross-by-frank-mundell/
The Victoria Cross is the highest military award that can be made to members of the British and Commonwealth armed forces for acts of gallantry and valour “in the face of the enemy”.

The medal was instituted by Royal Warrant in 1856 by Queen Victoria, who had taken an active interest in the reports and despatches received during the battles of the Crimean War; especially the details describing the exceptional bravery and gallantry of soldiers of all ranks whilst under intense conflict.

This book, Stories of the Victoria Cross was one in a series of inspirational texts and ‘heroic writings’ by the Victorian author Frank Mundell and published by The Sunday School Union. The stories presented here relate to actual events that occurred in the field of battle around the turn of the last century and the extraordinary efforts of individuals or groups of soldiers when facing life-threatening situations whilst under fire. IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Thanks for setting up the MW - Sections 0 ~ 3 now uploaded - Fit the PLing in when you can - there's no rush on this project!

Hope you can read the PDF OK - it was only a quick convert and some of the pages are a bit 'rough & ready', to say the least!.

Have a safe trip - is the travelling holiday or work? :)

Dave, Thanks for PLing 12 ~ 15 – Sections 16 ~ 19 now uploaded.

Chapter 16 – The Heroic Defence of Rorke’s Drift tells an extraordinary story from the Anglo-Zulu war of 1879 where around 150 British soldiers successfully held their position against attacks by several thousand Zulu warriors.

The 1964 film, Zulu is also based on the events of the Battle of Rorke’s Drift and fortunately for me (and for you as PL) there was no singing required in this chapter – unlike in the film where the song, Men of Harlech was sung before the final battle!
