Lysistrata by Aristophanes (446 - 389 BCE).

This project can now be found in our catalog at https://librivox.org/lysistrata-version-3-by-aristophanes/
The women of Athens are sick of the Peloponnesian war that has dragged on for year after year after year, causing great hardship to everyone. They decide to deny the men sex until they agree to make peace, using the one thing that perhaps men enjoy more than killing each other. Does it work? Listen and find out. This comedy by Aristophanes was first performed in 411 BC. The translator is Jack LIndsey. (phil chenevert )
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/7700
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi my name is Michael. LibriVox id NobelActual. I noticed that you had a few sections which need to be proofed. I was hoping to help you with that if you would like.

Hi Michael and thank you for your offer but this project already has a DPL (Dedicated Proof Listener) who has offered to check all sections. If you look in the forums, especially the Launch Pad, you will see some projects with a tilde ~ in front of the title. This means they are looking for a DPL. If you just wish to listen to a secction or two, check the Listners Wanted forum. There is a lot going on here and people are always looking for someone to check 'em out by listening. If you have any questions, just ask and thanks again for offereing.
PS are you interested in the classics like this or did it just catch your eye. I liked this play so much I plan to record other of his comedies in the coming months. There is SO much great stuff to record!! Image (and you can do it too!)

Michael: Please don't let my answer above stop you from listening to the first two scenes and giving me feedback if you want to. I would love all the feedback I can get on what works and what doesn't. I am changing my recording setup and it doesn't seem to be helping the noise situation very much.

Sections 1 and 2 are PL OK. Didn't know you had dramatic talents for different voices like these, Phil, especially all those women. :)

(shhhhhh: keep it secret but I don't) Anyway, thanks for the compliment. When I record, i have no knowledge of switching voices at all; whatever comes out is apparently adjusted by my brain to be different or something. A mystery to me. Also, when I listen to the recording, they all sound alike. I have done several Oscar Wilde plays, doing women and men, and no one seems to care. But it is great, don't get me wrong. I ain't complaining!!!!! thank you for PLing.

Well, the readings are quite enjoyable in any case. :) Please put me down as DPL for the future Aristophanes projects.
