O.K., Jim--I have PL'ed two of the sections, and you did a great job on both. Thank you! :)

Section 78: PL OK
Section 80: PL OK

I will have to wait until you get the correct file uploaded before I can PL Section 79.

Thank you, Jim--good on this one as well. I'll try to listen to your long section tomorrow.

Section 79: PL OK

NOTE to Devorah--notice change in track length on this section.
NOTE to Devorah and MaryAnn--Also, I just noticed from my downloads that the file names for Sections 72 & 73 don't end in 128kb (but just 128 instead). I don't have access to the MW, so you may already have noticed and fixed them, but thought I would mention it in case still needs to be fixed behind the scenes. :)

Here is my final section:

https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/negroliterature_083_culp_128kb.mp3 18:52

Not sure this interpretation of church history holds up, or that the argument vis-a-vis the Negro holds up either, but it is certainly an interesting exposition.

Thanks, Lucretia, for helping with the PL. :9:

Thank you, all. I think I have the MW entirely up to date now. Please let me know if someone catches anything I missed.

Also thanks for catching those file names, Lucretia! That one slipped by me.

In the case of the paper by George W. Carver, I took the liberty of calling him George Washington Carver as he has generally become known by his full name.
Hi Russ--I've downloaded and PL'ed this group of recordings--thank you! :)

Section 84: No problems with the reading of the text itself, but a couple of technical problems for you to correct--
--We are well over the acceptable volume at 97 dB, so please “de-amplify” by -7.5 dB.
--The ending silence is over 10 seconds, so please cut it down to 5 seconds.

Section 85:
--At ~19:30 I hear “Sixty-seven more than twenty years.” but it should be “Sixty-seven more than thirty years.” Since the paragraph is about the length of time in business for Negro businesses, maybe we should fix this one.

Section 86:
--At ~4:07 Repeat “…that they faithfully—faithfully carried out.”
--At ~18:20 Repeat “…while the man who teaches him can understand the science—while the man who teaches him can understand the science.”

Section 87:
--At ~0:33 I hear “…by Professor George Washington Carter” but it should be “…by Professor George Washington Carver

Section 88: PL OK

That was a lot of text to record, and you did a good job. Upload your corrected files and the new track lengths, and then I will take another quick look at them. And do let us know if you have any questions.

NOTE to Devorah:

Actually, I should have noticed and mentioned those file names when I PL'ed the sections. My bad. :)

And also FYI--the actual track length on Section 88 is 23:10.

Have a good evening.

Hi JIm--Well, all I can say is  Bravo!! on that listing of patents. Just one fix needed--

Section 89:
--At ~27:39 Repeat “Gray, R.H., Cistern Cleaners—Gray, R.H., Cistern Cleaners Razor” (first try seems to be the correct one) and then the next invention appears to me as “Razor Stropping Device”. So maybe it is just the way your copy is formatted--? The format that I’m using is Gutenberg’s option of “Read this book online HTML”. At any rate, clearly a repeat.

Section 38:
At ~0:36 You first read the caption to the photo “MRS. SARAH DUDLEY PETTEY”—and then you begin the biographical sketch with “Mrs. Sarah Dudley Pettey, the brilliant and accomplished wife…” So it sounds kind of like a repeat. Perhaps it would be better to cut out the photo caption?
At ~6:34 Stumble “…as the first per—prerequisite” (should be able to easily snip it out).
At ~7:36 Repeat “…countless—countless numbers of our people”

That's it. Thanks for taking on such a difficult section.
Kind regards,
Lucretia

I agree with this. Photo captions are not necessary. Thank you both!
