OK I think I have done it!! URL https://librivox.org/uploads/aradlaw/nellychannell_18_doudney_128kb.mp3 Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. It was a bit harder than I thought it would be but I am sure practice will make it easier/better. Time - 03:32 Nancy

Your volume was too low (you should be aiming for 89dB, and you were at 83.5dB), and your ending silence was too short (it should be about 5 seconds, and you had about 1.8 seconds). As these are easily fixed, I've changed them myself, but be aware for future recordings. Checker is useful program for checking things like the volume.

I have a couple questions before I start on Chapter 17. If I speak louder into the mic will that help the volume (I am not totally technologically challenged but close!) Also, in the next to the last paragraph it says "in the city of C----". Do I just read that as c. Thanks for your help!
Hi Nancy,
on the first question, it is the city of C.
As for the volume, there are tutorial vidioes for beginers. I don't have the links right now, but they are in the librivox wiki. I think reading them would help.

The level of background noise fluctuates a lot. Here are the times of the most noticeable noise:njgorgen wrote: ↑September 3rd, 2018, 2:38 pm Success (I hope!) Here is Chapter 17. URL https://librivox.org/uploads/aradlaw/nellychannel_17_doudney_128kb.mp3 Time 8m43.105s

If you're not aware of how to reduce background noise, check out this link: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Noise_Cleaning#Noise_Reduction_with_free_Audacity_2.1.0_and_later_versions
Also, at 8:34, you don't need to say 'Nelly Channell, by Sarah Doudney' here, as it's not the last section.

Hi,
Nancy, 15 and 16 are all yours. This is a learning process, and these short chapters are perfect for that. Have fun.
Thanks for helping her, Jordan. It is really nice of you.

This is most definitely a learning process!! I think I have done just that. Thank you for all your help!! I put it through checker (passed!) and did the noise reduction. Here is Chap 15 URL https://librivox,org/uploads/aradlaw/nellychannell_15_doudney_128kb.mp3 Anything else I can do to improve just let me know. Nancy
