Biography of an American Bondman, By His Daughter by Josephine Brown (1839 - 1874).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/biography-of-an-american-bondman-by-his-daughter-by-josephine-brown/
Josephine Brown's Biography of an American Bondsman faithfully follows the trajectory of her father's life as previously explored in his own narratives. She distills and summarizes the major revelatory moments of his autobiography while she also incorporates new anecdotal information and offers her own perspective on Brown's life. Whereas her biography draws frequently from previously published autobiographical accounts, the narrative style and comic flourishes add interest and value to the text. Andrews observes that her biography's primary contribution to the "lore of William Wells Brown" may be the insight it offers into the rhetorical tactics used by both father and daughter in "their war of words against slavery." IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Thanks, Dave, very much! Do you see that I posted one with a misspelled author name and then corrected and posted again. Are you able to advise and help on that problem? Thanks again. I appreciate all your help. Jim

I corrected the first author's name in the subject line to Josephine after checking the spelling in the text. The Project Screen which is used to create the book at cataloging has the correct name, Josephine. You didn't specify the number of sections you wanted so I started you with 12 as there 24 shortish chapters. Obviously you can add more if you desire to have each section contain only one chapter.

Let me know if any further changes are needed. Do you have someone in mind as DPL?

You are always the preferred choice, but there is Helen or Cheryl or Sonia or Philip, none of whom I have ever actually asked. Should I take the plunge?

So I am experimenting. Because the chapters are short, I sort of took your lead and did the first two together as Section 1. As you can hear, I ended 1 and then I ended 2, not at the end saying end of chapters 1 and 2. Which do you prefer or think is the most acceptable procedure? Jim :hmm:

1 PL OK.

Some readers use the section number at the beginning of the intro (Chapter #s are read within the text) and in the outro. Other readers prefer to read the chapter #s as you have done (Ch 1 at the beginning of the file and end of chapter 2 at the file end) with no mention of the section number. Both are fine though I prefer the latter. 1 is followed by 2, which is followed by 3, etc. Easy for a visually impaired listener to follow.

You could shorten the file names (e.g. removing "by his daughter"). Your choice. Or perhaps do this the next time you read a book with a long title.

edit: I've always thought saying "end of chapters 1 and 2" in the outro seemed a bit of overkill.

Thanks for your explanation. I think we agree, which means also that I will rename this and subsequent files. Jim
