Edited after following pl notes, compressed then amplified,
there is a 5 second silence ( I think ) at the end i added more so if it removes more it'll be right and that workes it seems i dunno why audacity does that, but I'm not sure about the audio level.
I hope this is better.
thank you.
Much better!
Ending silence is about 4 seconds now. We like to have 5. I don't know why your Audacity would be truncating the ending silence. Maybe Phil knows.
Your volume is much more consistent which is great, but a little on the loud side at 92.4dB. We aim for 89dB with an acceptable range of 86-92dB. When you amplify this time, remember the - sign.
How can I upload an excerpt of my chapter in order to get some feedback before finishing the rest of it?
Thanks.
Lynda gave you an excellent answer. But if you are really concerned that something is not right, you may upload a very short sample (definitely less than 3 minutes) of the chapter and post the link here in this thread. I will give you some feedback. We want everyone to succeed and have fun so you can either grit your teeth, do the whole chapter and upload it, or get some reassurance with a short sample.
Let us know if we can help.
Thank you Lynda, linny, and phil. Here is my sample. It's 2:31 long, but I wouldn't mind at all if you just listened to 30 seconds of it. I just happened to record a chunk this length. I'm using the same setup as my 1-minute test but for some reason by 1-minute test sounded a lot better to me. This one feels like it's not as crisp/clean/loud enough? Any feedback would really help me, this is my first 'real' recording so I'm really nervous! But I'm here to learn so here we go...
I'm looking for feedback on my recordings, especially on storytelling and character voices (but any feedback is welcome, I'm here to learn!). My recent contributions:

You are right on track. This sounds clean and clear to me. Lovely start!
You won't want to go any lower in volume. You are at 86.5dB. We aim for 89dB with a range of 86-92dB.
Remember to add the intro to the beginning.
Really? I'm so relieved! Yes for sure I'll have the intro done too. Okay I'll try and keep the volume up. How did you check what volume I was at (so I can check it myself as well)?

A special program was developed for us here at LV. It's called the Checker. You can find out more about it here. https://cgjennings.ca/checker.html It's extremely easy to work and only takes a moment. The hardest part will be selecting the correct download for your computer (32 bit - 64 bit) .
it seems I am unable to get the exact time of silence I leave in it gets cut short randomly, this time its a bit more than 5 seconds.
I tried a bunch of different things but I can't get exactly 5 seconds, so if you can during the cataloging process remove the extra silence.

Thank you for your patience and persistence. It's really 'about' 5 seconds, not exactly so that is not a big probloem. I usually add a bunch of silence at the end of a recording then just snip off the excess.

Ending silence is at 4 seconds. That should be fine. There must be something in your settings that causes the truncation. Unfortunately, I don't know what it is but you might want to post about the issue in the Help forum. viewtopic.php?f=23&t=40238
Hello!
Here is my recording of Chapter 3 (Cinderella). This is my first recording on Libirvox, so please let me know if I need to change anything, etc...
Thank you,
Samantha
It's my first real recording, so let me know if it sounds alright And I'm always open to any kind of feedback. I'm here to learn!
