A Voyage in the 'Sunbeam', Our Home on the Ocean for Eleven Months by Anna "Annie" Brassey (1839 - 1887).
This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page:https://librivox.org/a-voyage-in-the-sunbeam-our-home-on-the-ocean-for-eleven-months-by-anna-annie-allnutt-brassey/

Mrs. Brassey, (in future, Lady Brassey) describes the events and sights of her family's voyage around in the world in 1876-1877 ( Dovie Cross)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/14836
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Accessing the System – First Time Login
1. Use this Link to go the main login screen: http://librivox.org/workflow
2. Click on Login (for BCs & MCs)
3. Enter your forum username.
4. Click “Forgot Password” (Note: If you had a password in the old Magic Window system, that old BC login for the Magic Window will not work here!!!)
5. You will receive an email with a link to reset your password. Click the link and enter a password and submit the form.
6. Go back to the main login screen and use the new password you entered above to log in to the system.
7. When you log in from the main screen above, you will be taken to the LibriVox Management Dashboard default screen where you should see a list of your active projects along with options for dropdown menus, searching and editing your profile. (more on this later)
For more explicit step by step directions with screen shots, please see Accessing the System - First Time Login
NOTE: BCs should use their personal workflow login to upload files. If you recently logged in with the general login to upload files to a project and the system still had you logged in, you may see this:
You don't have permissions for this area.
Return to Librivox Management Tool Homepage
Logout
To remedy this, click Logout and then login with your BC login and password.

It sometimes takes a couple of tries.

Looks good

There is no need to post the link/ time in the thread for a solo (although some soloists do). To be honest, until you get a DPL, there's not really much point in posting here that you've uploaded a section. Then you can say "section XX is ready for PL" or whatever you choose . But until then, just keep uploading and entering the files in the MW. You're well on the way, and have done the difficult bit

I can’t DPL for you but I can PL the 2 sections you have posted and then check in from time to time until you get a DPL.

Oh, and please do add the length of each recording to the notes section in the MW. Word counts are usually only important for group projects. Length of time needed to PL is important to know.

Section 0 is Pl ok. I have listed a couple of optional notes. Completely up to you if you want to fuss with them.

2:00 - I have to thank Mr. W. Simpson, author of 'Meeting the Sun,' for the passages given on pages 341 to 343 (reader’s note, chapter 20) referring to the Japanese temples and their priesthood.

2:19 - The engines, by Messrs. Laird, are of 70 nominal or 350 indicated horse-power, and developed a speed of 10.13 knots at the measured mile.
Usually pronounced as Messieurs. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/monsieur

Chapter 1 is Pl ok.

So as not to confuse your DPL, you might consider revising your initial post to remove “Annie” from the author’s name as you didn’t include it in these sections.

You are off to a wonderful start to your adventure. Enjoy!

Dovie, it has been suggested you leave this as the English pronunciation. There is no indication they are French.

Lynnet, I just five minutes ago uploaded an updated Section 0, with the note about Chapter 20 and a more French reading, though French is not my forte. Do you think I should change it back?

The way you have it now sounds good to me. Section 0 is spot check PL OK.

I have some catching up on my other projects to do. If a DPL doesn't come along, I’ll have a listen to your next chapter.

Hi, cherylstewart! I would love to have you DPL!

Just FYI, I am pretty new to Librivox - this is my first solo project - but I don't have ego problems, so if I'm doing something wrong, just let me know! I am eager to learn!
