His Lady Friend by Ring Lardner (1885 - 1933).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/his-lady-friend-by-ring-lardner/
This week's poem is taken from Ringgold Wilmer "Ring" Lardner's 'Bib Ballads' book of poetry about his child. In his Forward he says
"Dear Parents:—Don't imagine, please,
It's in a boastful spirit
I fashion verses such as these;...
...But babes are babes, and mine, no doubt,
Is very much like others. "
Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers as possible!
This week's poem can be found here.

Set your recording software to:
Channels: 1 (Mono)
Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44100 kHz

Have questions on "how"?
Check LV's Recording Notes thread before recording. If this is your first recording, you'll also find this Newbie Guide to Recording useful.
Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
His Lady Friend by Ring Lardner, read for LibriVox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, your location, and/or your personal url.]
Then read the poem:
Who is Sylvia? What is she
That early every morning
You desert your family
And rush to see her, scorning
Your once cherished ma and me?

Are her playthings such a treat?
I will steal 'em from her;
Better that than not to meet
My son and heir all summer,
Save when he comes home to eat.

Or is she herself the one
And only real attraction?
Has your little heart begun
To get that sort of action?
Better wait a few years, son.

At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.

Please leave 5 seconds of silence at the end of your recording.
Save your recording as an mp3 file using the following filename and ID3 tag format:
File name - all in lowercase: ladyfriend_lardner_your initials in lowercase_128kb.mp3
(e.g. ladyfriend_lardner_klh_128kb.mp3 )

ID3 tags (Version 2.30): ID Tags are completed during Cataloging

*Readers, please check back in a day or so for any feedback regarding your reading.

David -

I thought getting up at 4:30, I could be first this week. That's what I get for living on the left hand coast. Oh well, it all pays the same.

I wish more of Lardner's writing was PD.

David,

Your reading is good, except that you called the author "Gardner" instead of "Lardner" in the intro.

Hi, David - I had a listen to your recording. I believe you read Gardner instead of Lardner, otherwise everything PL OK!
